Courtesy Basis For Traffic Laws Courtesy is the basis for many traffic laws, says the California Highway Patrol. "Traffic laws regulating right-of-way, the use of hand or mechanical signals and car lights at night are all based on common courtesy," declared Patrol Commissioner B. R. Caldwell. "Courteous drivers usually obey these laws giving the right-of-way, using signals to indicate turns and stops and dimming headlights for the other driver. "Practicing courtesy in traffic tends to keep a driver out of accident trouble and helps others stay out of such trouble too," Caldwell stated. "Other laws based on courtesy include the minimum speed law, driving in the right hand lane on multiple lane roadways, following too closely and parking regulations. "Courteous driving and walking in traffic and continued obedience to the traffic rules will do much to reduce our traffic accident problem." Larry R. Huxall, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur W.
