Kress Store Has New Manager Here The local S. H. Kress Company store has a new manager in the person of Lewis Phillips who comes to the Anaheim store from Alhambra assuming his new duties here last Thursday. Mr. Phillips has been with the Kress stores for the past 16 years, starting in Anderson, S. C. transferring later to Charlotte, N. C. Before coming to Alhambra, Mr. Phillips was manager of the Emporia, Kansas, store. The Anaheim store is in the process of a complete remodelling project in which the store will be placed on a self-service operation, with centrally located checkstands for the customers convenience. Carry-all baskets as well as wheel baskets will be provided for the use of the buying public. Mr. Phillips feels this transition will enable the customer to get faster and better service and will allow the store to display a greater variety of merchandise. Stan Parker, who is being replaced by Mr. Phillips, has been promoted to the management of the chain's San Bernardino store. Mr. Phillips, with his wife, Dean, have established their home at 1666 Beacon Street, this city. They have a daughter, Jean, 16 years of age, and two sons, Lewis, 14, and Kenneth, four years old. Alfred Avila, gunner's mate Stan Parker, who is being replaced by Mr. Phillips, has been promoted to the managership of the chain's San Bernardino store. Naval installation in the western Pacific. Sergeant First Class James D. Thurber, whose wife, Toyoko, lives at 11532 Nearing Dr., Anaheim, is a member of the 133d Signal Company at Fort Gordon, Ga. Sergeant Thurber, an equipment repairman in the company, entered the Army in 1948 and received basic training at Fort Ord. He was last stationed in the Far East.
