The Anaheim Business and Professional Women's Club meet last Wednesday evening for their first dinner meeting of the new year with Evah Drennon, president, presiding. Arrangements were made for members attending the San Orco District B-PW Club meeting to be held Jan. 19 and 20 at the Arrowhead Springs Hotel in San Bernardino. Health and Safety Committee was in charge of the program, Lydia Denny, chairman, Stasia Armstrong, Marguerite Harris, Francine Hillmert Balzer, Auddie Raymond, Vincenta Sorenson, Erthal Thatcher and Carol Wallace, members, assisting. In the absence of Lydia Denny, who was ill, Emma Lawrence, Program Coordinator, introduced Terrell Harper, Assistant Ranger of the State of California Forestry Department. He spoke on the timely subject of what the hillsides mean to the citizens and to their welfare. This was supplemented with a motion picture showing native brush lands, their inhabitants, use, destruction and reclamation. Decorations on the dinner tables were pine trees and Smoky Bears, in keeping with the conservation theme. Guests of the evening, other than the speaker, were Maxine Welgand, Jennie Bacon and Mary Lou Chase. St. Jude Guild Members Meet, Tour Hospital. Philharmonic Concert Will be Varied Program An unusual solo instrument, French horn, and a seldom heard symphonic work of Mozart's work highlight the varied program chosen by Conductor Frieda H. Infante when the Orange County Philharmonic Society orchestra plays the third concert of its current season on Sunday evening Jan. 20, at the Garden Grove High School auditorium at 8:30. Willard Culley, first horn player with the Orange County Philharmonic Society orchestra and musician for Hollywood motive picture studios, will be featured in the Mozart "Concerto in Flat" for Horn and Orchestra. This beautiful, but seldom heard composition of Mozart's will be the third selection in a program of varied tempos and texture which promises exciting listening for all Orange County music lovers. The first selection will be "Overture to Ruy Blas" by M. delssohn; then the "Third Symphony" of Brahms will be heard. The Mozart Concerto features Mr. Culley will immediately low the intermission and sparkling and dynamic "El Salem Mexico" by Aaron Copland will close the evening's program. As with all Orange County Philharmonic Society concerts the Sunday evening program open to the public, free of charge. St. Jude Guild Members Meet, Tour Hospital The St. Jude Hospital Guild held the first meeting of the New Year last Monday at the La Habra Women's Clubhouse. A short business meeting was held and service hours to date were turned in. Preliminary plans for the April Fashion Show were made. Tuesday, Jan. 29 will be the next work day at the Clubhouse and several projects are planned for that day. Members are asked to bring a sack lunch, the coffee to be provided. The meeting was adjourned by the president, Mrs. Henry Pullman, who announced that after refreshments a social hour would be enjoyed before the members left for a tour of the new St. Jude Hospital, Mrs. Leonard Matson, hospitality chairman, and her committee consisting of Mmes. June Brecht, C. R. Campbell and Wilson W. Phelps served coffee and doughnuts. Approximately 100 members of the Guild were taken on the hospital tour. While work had slowed down in December, due to a shortage of skilled workmen needed to install terrazzo flooring, the work has now speeded up and the progress is most encouraging. The most modern equipment is being installed throughout the 120-bed hospital in Fullerton. Because of its high location; beautiful views are seen from all the windows and all the rooms are painted in restful pastel colors. The Chapel is completed and its serene beauty will provide a place for meditation and prayer for all who use it. The wing, which is to provide living accommodations for the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange who will own and administer the hospital, will be ready for occupancy within a short time. Louis Pozzo, general contractor has staffed that work in proximity to sparkling and dynamic "El Salam Mexico" by Aaron Copland with close evening's program. As with all Orange County Philharmonic Society concertes the Sunday evening program open to the public; free of charge. Anaheim Thespians With Fullerton Footlighters Group In keeping with the declamation policy of the Fullerton Footlighters local little theatre group, recognition has been given to talent of surrounding communities in casting their current play "Our Town", to be presented JANE 25, 26, Feb. 1 and 2 at the Wshire school auditorium. Home Martin Hausladen, an orange grower who resided in this area for nearly 31 years and who has many old-time friends in this vicinity, passed away at his home at 5335 Chesley Ave, Los Angeles yesterday, Wednesday, Jan. 16. His late wife, Clara Ida Hausladen, preceded him in death in 1944. Survivors are three daughters, Anna M. S. Docherty, Resident Here 40 Years, Passes Wed. Anna M. Sandersfeld Docherty, 8942 Crescent Ave., died Wednesday in the California hospital in Los Angeles after an extended illness. Born in Iowa 71 years ago, she had resided in Anaheim for more than 40 years. She is survived by her husband, Robert Docherty; two daughters, Mrs. Nora Turner of Orange and Mrs., Florence McIntyre of Anaheim; two sons, Arnold and William Sandersfeld, both of Anaheim; one sister, Mrs. Martha Bircher of Anaheim; four brothers, R. A. Heitshusen of Anaheim, Edwin and William Heitshusen of Iowa and Elmer Heitshusen of Texas; ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted from Hilgenfeld chapel Saturday at 2 o'clock. Rev. Gemmillis Passes Away MonKaren Suzanne Gemmillis weeks old daughter of Mr. Mrs. William D. Gemmillis of Victoria Ave., Anaheim, found dead in her crib Monday at 5:30. She had given her feeding at 2 o'clock nothing unusual was noticed; coroner's office was notified an autopsy was performed as was found that the cause of her suffocation. Besides her parents she is vivied by two brothers, William and Mark A. Gemmilli, both home; paternal grandparents and Mrs. Russell D. Gemmilli Lancaster and maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Walt Boyle of Lynwood. Funeral services, under the direction of the Hilgenfeld Mary were conducted in Rose Hillside Church Wednesdays 2:30 p.m. Rev. Gemmill passes Away Monday Karen Suzanne Gemmill, six weeks old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William D. Gemmill of 2042 Victoria Ave., Anaheim, was dead in her crib Monday morning at 5:30. She had been seen her feeding at 2 o'clock and being unusual was noticed. The owner's office was notified and autopsy was performed and it is found that the cause of death is suffocation. Survivors are three daughters, Mrs. Bob Tremble, Mrs. Bob Carr and Mrs. John Stillmunks, of Anaheim; one son, Melvin Schmitt of Iowa; ten grandchildren; four brothers and one sis-in-Iowa. Recitation of Holy Rosary will be held in the chapel of Backs, Campbell and Kaulbars Mortuary Friday at 8 p.m. with Mass Saturday morning at 9 o'clock at St. Anthony Claret Church. Interment will be in Holy Sepulchre cemetery. Ethel Alta Back, Anaheim Resident 50 Years, Dies Fri. Ethel Alta Bock, a resident of Anaheim and the immediate area for fifty years, passed away Friday fornoon at Anaheim Community Hospital after a prolonged illness. She was born in Illinois 72 years ago and at the time of her passing was residing at 10741 Western Avenue. Survivors are her husband, Henry T. "Tom" Bock; four daughters, Mrs. Ivy Mae Cox of Los Angeles, Mrs. Catherine Carter of Newport Beach, Mrs. Barbara Richetti of San Francisco and Mrs. Dorothy Pentecost of Costa Mesa; six sons, David of Anaheim, James of Cypress, Robin of Costa Mesa, Henry of Eureka, and Thomas and Paul, both at home; one sister, Mrs. Grace Fleming of Illinois; thirteen grandchildren and one great granddaughter. She was a member of Cypress Church of Nazarene. The Rev. William D. Howard, former pastor of the Cypress church, officiated at the funeral service held on Tuesday at 2 o'clock in Hilgenfeld Mortuary Chapel. Interment was in the family plot in Anaheim cemetery. The National Tuberculosis Association founded in 1904 was the Chapman College Names President Dr. John L. Davis, dean of Hiram College in Ohio, will become president of Chapman College, March 1, it was announced today by J.E.Wilkinson, chairman of the board of trustees. Chapman's new president will succeed Dr. George N. Reeves who retired from the post Oct. 1 to assume the presidency of an insurance company in Phoenix. Dr. Davis has been dean of Hiram for six years and a professor of English at the Ohio institution since 1946. Dr. and Mrs. Davis-have a son and a daughter, Robert Lowell and Judith Anh, both attending Hiram College. Wilkinson has been serving as interim president since last September. R.L.Merlo Attends Detroit Meeting Raymond L. Merlo of 2369 Transit, Anaheim, attended a week-long advance posting class of Parke, Davis & Company at the Park Shelton Hotel in Detroit Jan. 7 to 11. Merlo, a sales representative with the world-wide pharmaceutical firm for one year, was one of 130 persons attending the meetings, designed to better acquaint sales personnel with the company its executives and policies.
