Adams, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles R. Adams of 317 E. La Palma, Anaheim, to aviation ordnanceman, second class, USN, while serving aboard the attack aircraft carrier USS Coral Sea. The promotion followed successful completion of a Navy-wide petty officer examination conducted in August. Selected at the Naval Training Center in San Diego, as apprentice petty officer third class was William L. Barton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Max T. Barton of 8901 Bernice Dr., Anaheim, and husband of the former Miss Patricia A. Lawson of Orange. The Apprentice Petty Officers, who graduated Dec. 8, were chosen from the ranks of the seaman recruits to assist the Company Commanders. The selection was made on the basis of aptitude and leadership qualities of each individual. Eddie J. Newton, sonarman second class, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. George E. Proctor of 220 N. Charlotte St., Anaheim, was presented a letter of commendation Oct. 20 for outstanding performance of duty aboard the Pacific Fleet destroyer USS Uhlmann. Cdr. E. S. Jackson, commanding officer of the Uhlman, cited him for his part in helping the ship rise from the lowest rated destroy- WHIP OT. During the fiscal year 1956, the Uhlmann won the battle efficiency award for the squadron. The Uhlmann is at port in Vallejo, Calif. A-3c Cola R. Allen of Anaheim was recently assigned to Maxwell Air Force Base in Alabama, for duty with the 3807th Transportation Squadron. He arrived there from Ft. Belvoir, Va. Airman Allen is the son of C. R.
