Heat from the reactor in the back building, being constructed by Atomics International (a division of North American Aviation, Inc.) will be converted to electric the generating plant (foreground) being developed by the Eern California Edison Company. Although an experimental plant will be the first non-military reactor in the U.S. to feed city out over private utility lines on a commercial basis.

"John A. Murdy is the best State Senator Orange County has ever had—re-elect him Nov. 6." This is the slogan of both Republicans and Democrats urging the reelection of a man whose record at Sacramento for the past four years sparkles with brilliant achievement. Now more than ever before, this fastest growing county needs a representative of Murdy's great integrity and legislative experience.

PLANTS WITH EDIBLE FRUIT
There are so many ornamental plants that can be enjoyed for their beauty as well as their fruit. In fruit trees, one of the most attractive ornamentals is the Pomegranate. Actually this plant can be trained as a shrub eight feet high or a six to ten foot tree. In fact, if a row of Pomegranates is only slightly pruned, it will make a fine informal hedge or screen. The waxy, red flowers and fruit are quite showy. For fruit the Pomegranate needs warmth; it will tolerate considerable alkalinity in the soil.
Hardy in cold or warm winters the Quince bears wonderful fruit that can be made into jellies and jams. The natural form is shrubby and bushy so it must be trained early if a tree form is desired.
The Persimmon is a beautiful and adaptable fruit tree. It will grow over all of California except the hottest areas. Flowering

fruit trees, particularly the Crabapple (Malus) and the Plum (Prunus) bear very delicious fruits. The Crabapple is available in many species; one of the best for fruit is Malus adstringens Hopa.
At the opposite end of the plant-size scale, plants with edible fruits include the ground cover Strawberry Hybrid Number 25. The fruit on this vine (which also makes a fine ground covering) is very tasty.
There are a great many other types of plants that bear edible fruit.
