Shrubs for Quick Ground Cover
On hillsides; under spreading trees; in hot, dry spots; in colorless areas, few plant-types will serve as well as a ground cover. Fast growing shrubs, too, often make outstanding ground covers and brighten a garden spot where no other plant can grow.
For the milder areas, such a shrub is the Coprosma Kirkil. A low-growing species of the Mirror Plant. Rapid growing, it makes a fine deep ground cover if it is pinched back. St. Johnswort, in its spreading form, is called Aaron's Bard (Hypericum calycinum) and is another good shrub selection for ground covering. Its foliage is green or yellow-green and it produces bright yellow flowers in summer.
Several prostrate species of the Juniper fill in quickly to provide a pleasing light green or blue green low foreground for other plants. Juniperus conferta, the Shore Juniper, grows one to two feet high, an informal mat of blue-green needle-like foliage. As its popular name indicates, it will tolerate salt spray and submergence. The Tamarix Juniper (J. Sabina tamariscifolia) grows only 18 inches high and it has needle and scale-like leaves in light green.
In sun or shade, dry or moist soil, the Bearberry Cotoneaster (Cotoneaster Dammeri) makes a handsome woody evergreen ground cover. Good for close up viewing, it is neat all year round.

DO YOU KNOW WHAT SALVAGE MEANS?
It means when ship is wrecked and the cargo is taken off by other boats and sold, they call it salvage or a big shipment is sent by rail and the firm is bankrupt or deceased and no one to claim it. They sell it to pay freight and demurrage and they send the factory the balance, that is called salvage also. So it is sent to the salvage outlet to sell.
They are the ICC Salvage Outlet at 12133 Front St., Norwalk, on north side of S. P. Railroad tracks. Phone TO 4-2797. Man there days, nights and Sundays too.
IT REALLY PAYS TO LOOK:
FURNITURE: They have 41 beautiful sets in 45 degree. Fabric in Shanton, Bute, Artgelo, Sprutus, cooler charcoal, sun down 'pink and ocean fuse, many others. It will pay to look. You can buy a beautiful set with louder chair, lamps and tables to match. $119.09. Pay $1.54 per wk. ICC Salvage Outlet.
BEDROOM SETS: They have 8 this week and they are wonderful with even the chest of drawers, big Mr. and Mrs. dresser, matching lamps, bookcase headboard; these are to be sold for $109.07. Pay $1.42 per wk. ICC Salvage Outlet.
