May 14—1881 We hope that some public spiritated citizen will donate twenty or thirty feet of ground in an eligible location so that the town trustees may erect a drinking mountain and watering trough. Enough private donations can be not together to pay for one. In order that the fountain shall serve its purpose it must be located near the center of town. Mrs. Bessie Lawrence, daughter of Dr. Wm. Garcia Passes Away Friday Augustin Escobar Garcia, 63, a native of Mexico who came to Anaheim in 1929 and who has lived in the area continuously, died unexpectedly at the Orange County General Hospital Friday morning. He was taken seriously during his stay, The Sisters of St. Catherine's Academy are preparing to hold the closing ceremonies of the school at the opera house. Garcia Passes Away Friday Augstin Escobar Garcia, 63, a native of Mexico who came to Placentia in 1929 and who has lived in the area continuously, died unexpectedly at the Orange County General Hospital Friday evening. He was taken seriously during the day and was rushed to the hospital where death ensued. He is survived by his wife, Julia Garcia at the family home, 6891 Pelrose Street; three daughters, Mrs. Aurora Richardson of Florida, Mrs. Jennie Martinez of San Pablo, Calif., and Mrs. Gloria Dillen of Long Beach; two sons, Angel Garcia of Placentia and Manuel Garcia of Garden Grove and 16 and children. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Placentia. There was a recitation of the holy Rosary Monday evening at Algenfeld chapel and Mass was held at St. Joseph's Catholic church in Placentia at 9 a.m. Interment was in Holy Sepulchre cemetery. The owners of the land which is watered from the Santiago creek held a meeting a few days ago and decided to lay 7000 feet of asbestine pipe, 12 inches in diameter, they believing that the increased water supply by the prevention of seepage and evaporation would more than repay them for the cost of the improvement—$3000. It is rumored that E. W. Crooke, a baggage master on the railroad, and a resident of Los Angeles, has fallen heir to $30,-000 by the death of a relative in England and that $10,000 of the bequest has already been received by him. Coleman Travis after an illness of almost six months is again seen on the streets of Orange, greeting his friends in his old-time jolly way. We learn that Messrs. Gardiner, Montgomery, Henry Evans, Snodgrass, Greeley, Clark, Cowan and other owners of land west and north of town are preparing to build a ditch from the river for the purpose of winter irrigating their lands. The ditch will be six miles long and will cost $300. It will leave the river near the head of the old Kraemer ditch and will pass north of town this side of the slough. The Adventists have pitched a tent in Anaheim and have begun a series of meetings by Elder Hunt. These will continue until the other tent spoken of by Rev. Washbourne last week arrives in town. 50 Years Ago... May 17—1906 Oscar Kneipp came down from Los Angeles on Tuesday for a short visit. He was out in Arizona for a year and lately has entered the employ of Sutons Bros. in Los Angeles. T. A. Darling made a trip to Lucas Canyon twelve miles east of San Diego under the fictitious firm name "NU-WAY SANITATION SERVICE OF GARDEN GROVE" and that said firm is composed of the following person, whose name in full place of residence is as follows: - Guy E.
