B3 - Anaheim Gazette Home Society Named In annual spring elections, Mrs. Joseph Fahey of Fullerton was named to succeed Mrs. R. K. Wines of Anaheim in the presidency of the Childrens' Home Society of California, Northern Orange County Chapter. Mrs. Fahey will be assisted by Mrs. McFarland Tolf, vice president; Mrs. Hunter Piper, secretary; Mrs. Oscar Schultz, treasurer. Installation will be held at the May meeting when final plans will be made for the Magnolia Ball which has been scheduled for June 9. CONE BROTHERS C 215 No. Los Angeles St. — Anaheim CHERRY PIE Milling *4 cups frozen cherries, 2 (20 oz.) cans thawed and well drained 3 tablespoons cherry juice 3 drops red food coloring ¼ teaspoon almond extract ½ cup cake flour 1 cup sugar* ¼ teaspoon salt 1 tablespoon melted butter * If canned red sour pitted cherries are used, increase sugar to 1½ cups. Place drained cherries in large mixing bowl. Combine cherry juice, food coloring and almond extract. Pour over cherries. Put cake flour, sugar and salt in sifter. Sift over cherries. Mix thoroughly. Add melted butter. Pour into 9-inch pastry-lined pie pan. Top with pastry strips arranged lattice fashion. Fold the bottom crust over the ends of strips. Make a fluted edge. Cut in half the lard with pastry blender until mixture has appearance of fine meal. Add remaining lard and cut in until size of large peas. Pour half of milk over mixture and mix by pressing with blender. Add remaining milk and press dough together. Shape into smooth ball by pressing firmly with hands. Cut dough in two pieces, one slightly larger for bottom crust. Roll bottom crust and place in pie pan. Trim away dough to within ½-inch of edge of pan. Colors like lemon on-yellow, golden-yellow orange. African marigolds grow when given plenty of water full sun. These are fine for terrace or background, or fill in borders and can be sown in place, thinning to about 10" apart. For smaller, compact plants there's the French marigold. Type, growing from nine to ten inches, is multi-branched, with smaller blossoms in rich mahogany, yellow, orange and bi-colored.
