Slow driving; Wrong Lane Driving, Big Accident Cause Slow driving and falling to drive in the proper lane are two hazardous practices that are becoming more frequent on California streets and highways according to information released today by the California Highway Patrol. "An increasing number of drivers are using passing lanes as driving lanes on our multiple lane roadways," declared Deputy Commissioner R. R. McDonald. "This is contrary to the law requiring motorists to drive in the lane nearest the right shoulder or curb except when passing or preparing to make a left turn." "Another errant driver is he who drives slower than the normal speed of traffic, holding back those who are desirous of driving at or near the legal speed," McDonald said. "This is always very dangerous as well as illegal on any highway at any time." "Although the driver of the slower moving vehicle is seldom directly involved in an accident, he is the main contributing cause of many serious accidents. The best policy for all drivers is to drive right and keep right, moving with the normal speed of traffic making use of the left lanes only for passing or when preparing to make a left turn." Terms of sale cash in lawful money GM PRESIDENT CONFIDENT OF PROSPERITY A confident prediction of continued prosperity during the remainder of 1955 was voiced by President Harlow H. Curtice of General Motors today as he began his annual trip to Europe. Curtice boarded the Queen Mary for a journey that will take him to France, England and Germany to inspect progress of the $200,000,000 GM expansion program for Europe which he announced a year ago. He will confer with government officials, European business leaders, GM executives and dealers, and newsmen. "The American economy is continuing to enjoy the best of health," Curtice said, "and I am confident that the last three months of 1955 will be as prosperous for business generally as the first nine were. "This is particularly true in the case of General Motors. Nineteen fifty-five will be a record year for us in unit sales of passenger cars and trucks and likewise a record year for dollar sales. "Our 1955 models have enjoyed unparalleled public acceptance. I am certain that our 1956 models will be enthusiastically received as they are introduced during the next 30 days and that demand for our products will continue at the current very high level. "I am looking forward with great pleasure to my visit to Europe, where I found the economy to be in very sound condition a year ago. Reports indicate that Europe's postwar recovery is continuing, and I am eager to check them at first hand."
