Dunston, officer in charge of U. S. Navy Recruiting and Office of Naval Procurement for Southern California, Arizona and part of Nevada, announced today that quotas for the enlistment of recruits has been cut. He went on to say that in spite of this there is no waiting list at the present time and applicants will be processed for immediate enlistment. "With summer drawing to a close so will many summer jobs held by qualified men," Commander Dunston said. "This may cause a backlog of applicants in some areas of southern California and Arizona. However, even tho' we are on a definite quota, we may request authority to exceed our quota." Commander Dunston urged all young men, 17 to 31, who want to join the Navy to go to their nearest Navy Recruiting Office. They will be processed for immediate enlistment as long as the present "no waiting list" condition exists. He also urged they ask about the Buddy program, high school graduate training program and airman program. Commander Dunston closed by saying, "The month of September marks the beginning of a new school year and the Navy's "Stay in School" plea.
