Trailers Now Under New Law Owners and operators of house trailers in California are affected by a new and stronger law enacted by the 1955 Legislature, effective now. Paul Mason, State Director of Motor Vehicles, in Sacramento today advised all trailer coach owners to check the status of their trailer registrations within the next 30 days. If the registration and license fees are due, they automatically become delinquent Sept. 7, 1955. "The trailer coach registration requirements were strengthened and made more inclusive by the new law," Mason said. "The major effect of the legislation is to provide that any trailer coach within this state shall be subject to annual registration and licensing whether it is operated or not." "Many trailer coach users who have been living in the vehicles as house trailers, or who have been moving them occasionally, have not been much concerned about the State's registration requirements. Under the new law, they will be required to apply immediately for registration." The motor vehicles director said the State fees include the flat $8.00 annual registration fee required for all motor vehicles, and a license fee of 2 per cent of the valuation of the vehicle determined by the Department of Motor Vehicles as specified in law. Penalties imposed 30 days after the fees are delinquent amount to 100 per cent of the registration fee and 50 per cent of the license fee. He advised all owners of trailer coaches which are not currently registered and displaying valid license plates and registration cards, to consult local Department of Motor Vehicles representatives to determine their status.
