The 1st Marine Division's 7th Regiment (Reinforced) sailed from San Diego July 19 with a Navy Task Force. After five days of training off the Southern California coast, the Leathernecks assaulted a beach objective in an amphibious landing July 26 on the Camp Pendleton reservation near Occanside, Calif. MANCHESTER ANAHEIM LAWNS CAN BE SAY CALIFORNIA Don't despair if your lawn has taken on the appearance of a football field after a rough game. Whatever the cause for the decline of your lawn it can be rejuvenated, assures the California Association of Nurserymen. There are many reasons for law decline—too frequent cutting, seases, pests, weeds, improper watering, loss of soil fertility, compaction, the wrong seed fills. But, in general, whatever the trouble, there is something you can do to restore its former beauty. Begin your rejuvenation program by spiking to a depth of 3 or four inches where soil is badly compacted, irrigating the surface first. Use a hollow-tined fork. Remove any hard spots in the lawn and replace with new soil; reseed or replant with sod taken from the edge of the lawn. Reseeding or resodding will be necessary if insects or diseases have made dead spots in the lawn. Top-dressing will always make a lawn perk up considerably. Mow the grass closely, cross-rake, weed and spike if necessary. Apply the top-dressing using ordinary graden soil, a compost or humus to a uniform depth and raking it with the back of a rake. It may be necessary in some cases to replace the lawn entirely. In replacing the lawn you will need to remove all the present turf and prepare the seedbed as you did when you first put in your lawn—raking, filling in low spots, fertilizing, scattering the seed, mulching and watering. If your lawn is giving you a lot of trouble, talk over your difficulties with your nurseryman. He's properly versed in lawn techniques and will be able to supply you information and supplies for your lawn re-conditioning pro- ANAHEIM ANAHEIM, ORANGE COUNTY, CALIFORNIA "ABE" CONE EXPANSION an E' CHORD model Hammond Organs the new, Touch-Response mission Control; enjoy the added tones like chimes, xylophone, marimba, etc. our Old Piano Accepted In Exchange ANZ - SCHMIDT PIANO CO.
