Swiss Salad Sandwich
Ham and Swiss cheese combine to make Swiss Salad Sandwich—a unique flavor achievement to enjoy during August, Sandwich Time.
During August, Sandwich Time, discover for yourself the versatile economical, nutritious complete sandwich meal. Let appetizing sandwiches take the work out of meal-making this summer.
Two Swiss Salad Sandwiches on a plate—with fresh tomato slices lettuce and pickles or olives—make a light lunch with "staying" power. For the sandwiches, use crisp, enriched poppy seed rolls, fresh french bread. Stuff them with a tempting combination of ham, Swiss cheese, chopped vegetables and caraway seeds. Milk as the beverage provides additional food value. Top off your sandwich meal with an intensive grape snow pudding and creamy custard sauce.
The tanginess of this sandwich filling is just what's needed to terrestrial lazy summer appetites. Essential B-vitamins and food iron in enriched rolls, together with the protein-rich filling, make Swiss Salad Sandwiches a valuable main dish for summer luncheons and supper.

WINS AWARD
Susie McBee of Los Angeles,
with one year remaining before her graduation from the journalism school at University of Southern California,
has been declared winner of the Edith R. Allan scholarship award presented annually by the California Newspaper Publishers Association.
A member of Phi Beta Kappa,
national scholastic fraternity, Miss McBee will serve during the fall semester as editor of the student Daily Trojan, an honor rarely going to a girl. Miss McBee was nominated for the CNPA scholarship by John H. McCoy, director of the journalistic department.
Each of the universities in the state with accredited departments of journalism is entitled to nominate one girl student for the scholarly winner's senior year of study. Last year the winner was Alma Kahre of University of California.
The nominities are interviewed and judged by a CNPA committee comprising past presidents of this statewide association of weekly and daily newspapers. Announcing Miss McBee as the winner this year was Justus F. Craemer of the San Rafael Independent-Journal, chairman of the committee.
The $500 each year comes from a fund established six years ago from contributions made by CNPA newspaper publishers. The scholarship is named after the late Miss Edith R. Allan who served
