BALLMAN'S STORE-WIDE JULY CLEARANCE SALE! WM. "BILL" BALLMAN OWNER SAVE UP TO 25% On Some Close-Outs APPLIANCES and TELEVISION Business Activity Expands in Southland Business activity in the southern half of California continued to expand on a broad front during May, according to James F. McWaters, manager of Security-First National Bank's Anaheim branch. Quoting from the bank's monthly summary of business conditions, he reported that for the seventh consecutive month, the bank's business index reaches new high ground. On a per capita basis, the index was at a new high for the second consecutive month. The gain in general business activity between April and May amounted to 1½ per cent, the local banker reported. Department store sales in the Los Angeles area increased in May for the second consecutive month, the monthly business report showed. Compared with a year ago, sales in May were up 8½ per cent. Unemployment in the Los Angeles area increased May for the fourth consecutive month, the bank manager said. Building permits issued in southern half of California due May totaled $188,970,000, though May's valuation declined from the March and April levels; the decline was less than is usual during this period. Nowhere in the Los Angeles area has the expansion of building activity been more spectacular than in Orange county. The situation of building permits issued in this county during the first months of 1955 has been at an annual rate of $350,840,000—a 61 per cent above 1954's re SAVE UP TO 25% On Some Close-Outs APPLIANCES and TELEVISION Refrigerators 7.6 Cu. TO APPLY DUST Dust should be applied to a plant in a cloud which envelopes it and covers all stems and leaves with a coat about as heavy as face powder. It is not necessary for the leaves to be damp, but a good job cannot be done in a strong wind. The dust coat should be there when the insects arrive, if possible, or when the spores (seeds) of fungi are carried to the plant. heim Gazette ORNIA THURSDAY, JULY 7, 1958. Get the SAVINGS HABIT!
