DAISIES IDEAL FLOWER FOR THE AVERAGE CALIFORNIA GARDENER
For summer cut flowers there's no bordering the daisy and its companions the aster and the Marigurite. Each blooms profusely and together they provide a variety of blossom forms that will liven up the garden in even the most barren areas.
FOR BROADLEAF TROPICALS TRY SOME OF THESE
Many Southern California small garden patios and separate areas in estate gardens use these well-selected broadleaf plants for exotic tropical-effects. They are especially desirable when set out by a foreground of splashes or brilliant-hued flowers. Aralia payrifera (Rice Paper Plant), shrub or small type tree with huge, silvery green tropical leaves Arailia (slebold), the glossy-leaved Rice Paper Plant for use in tubs — up to 5 feet tall; Go Dust Plant (Acuba Japonica var. gata) with bright glossy evergreen leaves blotched with gold; Fuchsia dera (the wonder vine) for tropical evergreen aralia type leaves trellis or wall; Hawaiian Fern (Clbotum chamissol) patio or outer shade-shelter places; Elephant Ear (Caladium esculentum) with its gigantic broad leaves — up to 3 feet and velvety tropical appearances.

Chapman College Plans Fifth Annual European Study Tour
Ninety persons from all parts of the United States and from Canada will emplane at New York International Airport — Sunday, July 3, on Chapman college's fifth annual study tour of Europe.
The two-month tour is under the direction of Dr. Kurt Bergel, professor of history at Chapman, and the itinerary comprises historically significant points in 15 countries.
The countries are: England, Belgium, France, Monaco, Italy, San Marino, Yugoslavia, Austria, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, Germany, Denmark, Holland, Scotland, and Ireland.
Dr. Bergel's European civilization study tour is a regular course in the Chapman college summer school curriculum. It may be taken for college credit or simply to satisfy a desire to travel.
The class will return to the United States Aug. 31.
Registration is now open for the second five-week session of summer school, Aug. 1 - Sept. 2. The first session, now under way, ends July 22.
Each blooms profusely and together they provide a variety of blossom forms that will liven up the garden in even the most barren areas.
The Shasta daisy or chrysanthemum maximum has been highly hybridized and is now available in a wealth of forms, each bearing a name. The Esther Read and Marconi are doubles; Majestic, a duplex type with a five-inch flower on a fine stem; the Aglaya, a frilly lily double, smaller than the Marconi but with a better stalk.
Wirrals Supreme resembles Esther Read but its blooms are twice as large and the stem and plant taller and showier than the latter and Horace Read is a full double with four-inch asturian-like flowers very long lasting when cut.
Shasta daisies are white with gold centers and green arrow-footed leaves; a yellow variety was developed by the Earl of Darnley but the color is not strong. You can color your daisies any shade you want, however, by dipping the blooms in vegetable dye.
Hardy throughout the state, the Shasta daisy prefers full sun and plenty of watering and is almost completely free from insects and diseases. It is so rapid spreading that the clumps should be divided almost yearly.

NEWEST FEATURE
An innovation in some of the fastest types of sink and laundry spray combinations is a movable cover that slides easily, without shifting, along the entire length of the fixture, says the Plumbing and Heating Industries Bureau. Thus when either compartment is in use, the drainboard can be moved into an immediately adjacent position.
