Smoky, as a spring project in Mrs. Marguerite Proud's kindergarten class, will be shown in the Schools building as a demonstration of primary instruction in Orange county. While very few of the small train enthusiasts have had first hand experience in actual rail travel, they have listened to stories, studied pictures and watched films that told the fundamental operation of steam and diesel locomotion. Then, with hammers and nails, under the supervision of Mrs. Proud, the youngsters constructed their very own train, dubbed Smoky the Fire Chief, complete with excursion car and caboose. Each year, representative school districts in the county are selected to present work of certain grade levels in the Fair exhibit. This year, in addition to the kindergarten display by La Habra, the first and second grade work will be shown by Ocean View Elementary school, while Savanna Elementary district will exhibit third grade achievement. At the high school level, business education will be presented by Santa Ana, while Garden Grove displays science work and Capistrano demonstrates home economics. Coordinator of the schools exhibits is Ernest Norton of Santa Ana, speech consultant for the Orange county schools. June Dairy Month Values MILD CHEESE 39¢ OREGON CHEDDAR per lb.
