Anaheim Industry
It is conservatively estimated that $25,000,000 in take-home wages and salaries is paid annually to the personnel employed in industrial and agricultural firms in Anaheim. This money provides the basic source of income for Anaheim. Without it there would be no thriving city of Anaheim. But, with this "economy", Anaheim is a good city—a fine place to live and work.
The employees of industry and agriculture spend large amounts of money in Anaheim Merchants exist on it. In return, personnel of industry and agriculture enjoy the wide array of goods and services which retail, professional, and service people provide.
They live in good homes built by contractors who know it is good business to build in a prosperous and growing community. They receive the benefits of good city government, schools and other civic enterprises paid for by the taxes coming in appreciable part from industry and agriculture.
To give proper recognition to the community-industry-agriculture partnership, Anaheim is observing Anaheim Industrial Progress Week, May 9 to 13.
During the week, the city government of Anaheim, industrial and agricultural products processing units, retail merchants, the Anaheim Chamber of Commerce, the high schools, the clergy, and civic organizations will participate in a variety of public events.
The first big major event is the Queen of Industry Ball, a pre-Industrial Week social event at which Miss Anaheim Industry will be selected from among these beauties:
Belle Hobart, Interstate Precision Products.
Carol Haney, Anaheim Hosiery Mills.
Oscar Schultz is chairman of the queen contest, assisted by Mrs. Marie Nelson, the Executive Secretaries Society of Orange County, Betty Beeson, and Frank Pierson. Jim Wright and Hal Chancellor are chairmen of the dance committee.
Knott's Berry Farm will host the queen candidates on the evening of the dance. The "treasure chest" of prizes for Miss Anaheim Industry and the other candidates will be provided by Smith-Reafsyder Furniture (cedar chest), Lovell's Music (record album), O'Kane's (petticoat), Paul Allen Shoes (shoes to match dress), Clarice and Rose Marie Reid Swim Suits ($25 merchandise order), Hurst Jewelers (Richlieu pearls), Ana-Lane (blouse), and Wendy's Dress Shop (blouse).
All contestants will receive gifts from Moon's (jewelry), Clarice (Rose Marie beach towels), and Sioux Honey Association (honey pack).
Anaheim Industrial Progress Week will be officially launched next Monday when the general membership of the Chamber of Commerce meets at luncheon with the Anaheim Rotary Club at noon, May 9.
