Los Angeles St. Teachers Report On Two Issues of High Controversy California Teachers association went on record on two highly controversial issues pertaining to public education. The CTA council took sharp issue with the recently published statement of the State Senate Interim Committee on Education regarding report cards. The Senate committee declared that reports to parents should follow the traditional procedure of revealing only a student's standing in comparison with other children, and objected to teacher-parent conferences. The CTA position is that "parents need to know where their child stands, not only in relation to his group, but also in relation to his own ability; not only in terms of academic accomplishment but also in terms of personal growth." The answer to the problem of reporting, the CTA statement declared, "is not an 'either-or' proposition but must involve several factors." Policy on UN Urged The council adopted a recommendation of its International Relations committee that school boards throughout the state be urged to establish a policy "with regard to the teaching of the United Nations and its organizations."
