6180 Homes Under Construction Here A detailed survey made on March 29 by the Anaheim post office showed 40 separate subdivisions all for single family dwellings, totaling 6180 homes, all now in some phase of construction in the Anaheim area. All these will be finished and occupied before the end of 1955, as nearly as can be determined now. With an estimate of 400 residences for a city carrier route this will result in 15 additional city routes this year. There are now 37 city routes and two more will be set up within a month. From then on they will increase more rapidly within the next few months as some of the very large subdivisions will be finished and occupied before then. MORE ABOUT... The result from which will produce a nut larger than the present grade of softs, with a shell of a white yellowish color. Dolph gathers the nuts in their wild state and plants them. When a stem of sufficient size is acquired the bud of the soft shell is grafted. Last year the grafts were defective and the crop was a failure. This year Dolph has been most successful and has a stand of a thousand or more. The business is a new venture and the trees will be raised for market. J. Hahn this week sold to J. Casson his three-year old gelding for $300. The horse will be used by Mr. Casson for driving purposes. Mrs. Hahn drove the horse at Pasadena's horse show and the News of that city spoke as follows concerning it: "One of the most beautiful equine specimens brought to Pasadena through the medium of the horse show came from Anaheim, Orange county, where Hahn, his owner, resides. The animal is known to the admirers of horseflesh in Southern California by the name of "Splendor" and the name most appropriately fits the superb creature. Splendor is a three-year-old sorrel gelding. He is really a magnificent animal, fifteen and one-half hands high, a beautiful golden color with flowing silvery mane and silver streaked face. A post just about this time would an incalculable amount of damage to the whole county, although Anaheim its efforts would be in great measure nullified by the use smoke. Nearly all the vineyard-s have piles of weeds and grape settings surrounding their vine-ards, and it is safe to say that efficiency as town engineer. The Board then adjourned. At the Republican primaries last Saturday, J. M. Guinn, E. Dunham and W. Clifton were elected delegates to the County Convention. The Hydraulic Hole Borer, for which the inventor, Joseph Bennerschmidt of Anaheim, obtained a patent, over a year ago, is now used extensively in the northern part of the state in building wharves, boring wells, etc. While this is complimentary to the inventor it is rank injustice to utilize his patent without offering compensation and we learn that he is about to take legal steps to assert his rights. Offers to purchase the patent have been received by Mr. Bennerschmidt from New York and New Jersey. Mr. P. H. Look and Capt. Ferguson have been sojourning in this vicinity for a few days past, gobbling up all the salable mutton and wool. Mr. W. M. Bailey, formerly of Anaheim, is here on a similar mission. Ten carloads of sheep were shipped by J. A. White in the early part of the week. Messrs. Look & Ferguson have bought 6000 head of sheep which will probably be forwarded to San Francisco, shortly. A Grand Ball will be given by Anaheim Lodge 190 and Orpheus Lodge 237. JES$IE JAME$ Guns for new job IWOULDN'T BE A ROBBER IF I KNEW AN HONEST TRADE This is the season of anxiety in vineyardists—the season when buck frost is to be feared. A most just about this time would mean an incalculable amount of damage to the whole county, although Anaheim its efforts would be in great measure nullified by the use of smoke. Nearly all the vineyarders have piles of weeds and grape settings surrounding their vine-ards, and it is safe to say that the proprietors of the gas works in Los Angeles have sold more tar this year than during the last five years combined. Sheet iron vessels in which to carry the warming tar from point to point have also been purchased by the hundreds, and the night watchman will give a general alarm whenever the thermometer indicates an approach to the freezing point. The most extraordinary precautions have been taken by our citizens to guard against damage by frost, but we have heard of no familiar precautions being adopted by other communities. The first thirteen days of April are considered the critical period and if they are passed safely there is little likelihood of any further damage. There has, however, been frost in May. Indeed the hardest frost ever known here occurred on the night of the 1st of May, 1850, but Anaheim was then in its infancy and the vines were then too young and vigorous to suffer much from the visitation. A heavy frost also fell on the nights of the 12th and 13th of May, 1862. It often occurs that frost does damage only spots; it will seriously blight the vineyard and scarcely touch the adjoining one. That of May 1862, exhibited this peculiarity in marked degree, a majority of the vineyards escaping damage, while others suffered severely. The Board of town trustees met Wednesday afternoon, only routine business was transacted. The clerk was instructed to issue letter of recommendation to Mr. F. Dalton testifying to his ef- Here's why MORE PEOPLE ARE BUYING PONTIACS than ever before! than ever before! You don’t have to look far to find the reason for the tremendous surge to Pontiac.
