Knight in a proclamation proclaiming the week of April 24 as Youth Temperance Education Week. Noting that a "problem of grave concern to all Americans in the evidence of the tragic narcotics hit among our people," the proclamation urged that "every sort be made to impress upon our younger citizens the vital importance of complete abstinence from the use of narcotics." "Preying upon false daring and foolish pride, unscrupulous purveyors of illicit drugs use many cowardly subterfuges to encourage 'experimentation' in the use of narcotics," the proclamation warned. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Meadows recently had an anniversary party at their home at 569 Grove Ave., to honor Mrs. Meadow's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Vi pond, on the occasion of their 30th wedding anniversary. State Income Tax At Halfway Mark Nearly one and one-half million 1954 State income tax returns have been filed and almost one and one-half million more are expected to be filed in the next three weeks, Robert C. Kirkwood, Franchise Tax Board Chairman, announced. He stated that those taxpayers who have not filed should do so immediately will require assistance from income tax office. Single persons with income $2,000 or more and married les with combined income $3,500 or more are required 1954 returns. The State Income tax on First and Broadway will be Mondays through Friday at 8:15 to 5:00 p.m., on Saturday April 2. You'll love the life you lead... with an all-electric kitchen! BUTLER After a luncheon served by the Vinding Circle, the White Temple Methodist Church Women's Society of Christian Service heard Mrs. Clara Butler discuss, "A Young Girl Goes to the City." Mrs. Butler represented church-sponsored Esther Hall in San Diego which closed in January after 35 years of service to more-than 1250 girls. Mrs. Butler said that a young girl meets many problems and disappointments in going to a city for job or schooling and is in need of counseling. A church home helps these girls to make good friends and to find the sort of life they really want. Mrs. Butler said. Mrs. Tommy Thomason, soloist, sang, "The Lord is My Shepherd," accompanied by Mrs. Ben Klau-man at the piano. Devotionals were given by Mrs. E. M. Holland.
