Heads At the recent Christmas meeting of Chispa Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, Worthy Matron Margaret Peterson announced the appointment of the following committee heads: Budget, Ethel Van Meter, Donald Jones and Mary Hadley; auditing, Clara Wilson, Georgetta Eager and Nan Cornbloom; examiners, Camille Deane, Everett Waymire and Mabel Wright; constitution and by-laws, Dorothy Thiessen, Marlon Fennell and Pauline Houts. Following official business at which Worthy Matron Margaret Peterson presided, a Christmas party was enjoyed by the membership. A long-time resident of Anaheim, Mrs. Alice Shoebridge, was recently honored by fourteen members of her family on the occasion of her 80th birthday. Children, grandchildren and great grandchildren gave her a surprise dinner party at the Imperial restaurant. BUYERS ANNOUNCE DAUGHTER'S ENGAGEMENT Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Buyer of 10752 Placentia avenue, Anaheim, have announced the engagement of their daughter, Miss Nancy Lee Cummings, and Clifford Wayne Thompson, son of Dr. and Mrs. Carroll W. Thompson of Glendale. The couple are sophomores at Chapman College in Orange and plan to be married upon completion of their college education. MARINERS CLUB TO MEET JANUARY 5 According to Admirals Mr. Mrs. Erwin Stahl, a quarter fleet meeting of the Marina Club, First Presbyterian church has been scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 5. Couples have the opportunity to own their own ships, sign on, and their crews. After the event activities, a buffet will be served. RETURN TO U. S. NANUARY 11 S. FORCES, ENGLAND—Herman D. Youngkeit, son of and Mrs. Herman Youngkeit, S. Janss St., Anaheim, Calif., scheduled to return to the U.S., January 11 after serving with 32nd Anti-Aircraft Artillery Grade in England. Youngkeit, a member of the Chemical Smoke Generator Company, arrived overseas last month from an assignment at McClellan, Ala. He entered Army in February 1953. Births Mr. and Mrs. Lee R. Ferguson of 7632 Dowling Rd., welcomed an 8 lb. 13 oz. daughter in St. Joseph hospital on Dec. 15. Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Gardner, 6962 Savannah St., welcomed a 7 lb. 5 oz. son in St. Joseph hospital on December 17. Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Lawrence of South Philadelphia St., proudly announce that their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Trouslade, Jr., of Long Beach, have just become parents of a daughter. The infant has been named Lillian, in honor of her great grandmother, wife of the first governor of Tennessee. It's a boy for Mr. and Mrs. Curtis G. Christian, 112 E. Larch street, born in St. Joseph hospital on December 12, weighing 6 lbs. 2 ounces. LOCAL REBEKAHS NAME NEW LODGE OFFICERS At a recent meeting of the Lois Rebekah lodge, Opal Carter was elected Noble Grand and Adah Anderson, Vice-Grand, Re-elected to assist with the leadership of the lodge for the 1955 season were Barbara Myers, recording secretary; Margaret Myers, financial secretary; and Hannah Horwitz, treasurer. SWEDISH POT ROAST WITH NOODLES 3½ to 4 pound pot roast 3 tablespoons lard 2 medium onions, sliced 1 clove garlic, minced 1 teaspoons salt ½ pint sour cream (1 cup) 1 cup water 4-ounce package noodles In a Dutch oven or other heavy utensil, melt lard and in it lightly brown onion and garlic. Push to one side. Rub meat with salt and brown well. Combine sour cream with water and pour over meat. Top meat with onions and garlic, cover and cook over low heat for 2½ hours, or until tender. Remove roast, skim off all but 4 tablespoons fat. Into fat stir 4 tablespoons flour; gradually add 2 cups bouillon or water and the sour cream mixture spooned from top. E-Z Franks with Corn 1 pound frankfurters ¼ cup bacon drippings, butter or margarine ¼ cup chopped onion ½ cup chopped green pepper 8 cups whole kernel corn (2 12-oz. cans) Heat fat in a large skillet and 'n it lightly brown onions and green pepper. Drain corn and add. Split frankfurters lengthwise, almost but not quite through; place on top of corn. Cover and cook over low heat for 20 minutes. 4 servings. LET US BUILD IT! CARAMEL APPLES 6 medium-sized Jonathan apples 1 cup beet or cane sugar ½ cup white corn syrup 1 15-oz. can sweetened condensed milk ½ teaspoon vanilla extract Insert wood skewer in stem end of washed and thoroughly dried apples. Combine sugar, corn syrup, sweetened condensed milk and salt in heavy saucepan. Stir until sugar is completely dissolved. Cook slowly, stirring gently but constantly to 230 degrees F. (A small amount dropped in cold water forms a soft ball.) Remove from heat; cool slightly. Stir in butter and then vanilla. Working quickly, dip apples in caramel; twirl until well coated. Place apples, stem side up, on baking sheet to harden.
