Fair Operations Studied by State Senator Murdy
State Senator John A. Murdy Jr., of Orange county returned early this week from Sacramento following a meeting of the Joint Legislative Committee on Fairs and Expositions held last Friday and Saturday at the State-Capitol. Murdy is a member of the committee, composed of three Senators and three Assemblymen.
A complete study of district and county fairs in the state will be undertaken by the committee, according to Murdy.
"It is planned to make comparative studies of fair operations in California with other states, in an effort to determine such items as state aid to fairs, interim uses of fair facilities and state policy governing fairs," Murdy declared.
A consulting organization has been retained by the Committee to make preliminary studies and report its findings to the Committee within two months.
The Orange county senator said the committee plans to ask: fair managers and directors to testify at subsequent hearings in order that the Legislators may get a well-rounded picture of the fairs' operations.

MANY NEW TEACHERS MOVING TO ANAHEIM
Many new teachers, most of them with families, are moving to Anaheim this week to complete the faculties of Anaheim's secondary schools as preparations continue for the opening of school September 13. Most of these will be assigned to the two junior high schools opening for the first time this year.
Only one will be assigned to the high school while several who taught there last year are transferring to either Western or Fremont Junior High School. This is possible because the ninth grade, formerly a part of the high school, will now be a part of the junior high school program thus diminishing the high school enrollment for this year. The two junior high schools will consist of grades 7, 8 and 9 while grades 10, 11 and 12 will attend the senior high.
CROWDS THIN OUT AFTER LABOR DAY
After Labor Day is a pleasant time to visit Southern California beach cities and to make short distance trips to beach, lakes and mountains.
By October 1 the crowds have thinned out and there is usually a moderate drop in hotel prices. Swimming and boating are still excellent, and up as high as Lake Arrowhead there are special late-season advantages.
