Varied Appliance Service Offered by J. Mitchell Co.
One half mile south of Buena Park, at 7662 South Grand Ave., John Mitchell and Company have a thriving business. They have been electrical contractors since 1918, when John Mitchell was the sole personnel. Henry Legari, who has been a partner in the company since 1944, was the first employee in 1927. Thirty people are now employed.
Appliance and television sales and service are an important part of this concern. Such well known brands as Hotpoint, Amana, Whirlpool, Ironrite and Servel are offered in large appliances.
This growing business organization has built their concern on service. Five up-to-date service departments are maintained for customers' convenience. Small appliances such as electric irons, toasters, waffle irons, etc. are repaired, often within the hour.
Three full-time technicians are employed in the television service department where the most modern test equipment is used.
Refrigerators, automatic washers, ironers and all large appliances are repaired in another department with two men employed full time for this service.
The motor repair and rewind department is one of the largest and best equipped in this area. Essential motors are replaced or repaired on a 24-hour-a-day service. A large stock of new motors is carried for sale also.
Chamber of Commerce Born in 1874
Growing up with Anaheim, the organization that plays an important part in the growth of any city, the Anaheim Chamber of Commerce had its first called meeting on May 2, 1895, at the city hall for the purpose of forming a permanent organization and to elect a board of seven directors. Mr. Fay presided as temporary chairman with L. Goldwater the temporary secretary.
Among the original directors which are well remembered by the older members of Anaheim as they remember hearing their parents speak of are: W. J. Fay, E. P. Fowler, M. L. Rogers, and W. T. Brown, all of Anaheim; A. H. Cargill of Brookhurst; E. K. Benchley of Fullerton; George Whitaker of Buena Park; Gus Hansen of Orangethorpe; J. N. Bill of Garden Grove; Placentia and Westminster to be supplied.
From this beginning the Chamber of Commerce has grown to the active group of men that it is today, a group of men who are look-

The fifth department is the pump sales, installation and repair. Many local schools, industrial plants, dairies and several hundred individual home owners know and depend on this valuable service for their water source.
Mr. and Mrs. John Mitchell are both active in the business. Both are natives of Buena Park, their home being located at the business address. They have a college age son and daughter.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Legari are also native Californians and have made their home at 7651.11th Street since their marriage 20 years ago. They have a son and daughter.
An invitation is extended to everyone to visit this friendly store any week day from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. "Come in and browse around any time," say the owners.
The executive power of Canada is vested in a governor-general.

From this beginning the Chamber of Commerce has grown to the active group of men that it is today, a group of men who are looking to the future of Anaheim and are attesting to that future in the present rapid growth of the city.
The following appeared in periodicals and was issued by the Chamber of Commerce shortly after the turn of the century:
"The city of Anaheim, with a population of 2500, is situated in the northern part of Orange county, in southern California, 12 miles from the ocean, four and a half miles from the foothills and 148½ feet above sea level. It is 27 miles from Los Angeles, the second largest city in the state of California."
"The climatic conditions are the most favorable for outdoor life to be found in southern California. The temperature is extremely uniform, seldom rising above 90 degrees in summer or falling below 32 degrees in winter. The abundance of sunlight and the absence of sharp frosts and cold winds make it a place especially acceptable to those who desire to escape the severe climate of the East.
"The country is very attractive. It is practically level, with just sufficient slope from the hills to afford adequate drainage. The roads are level, well graded and kept, affording excellent opportunities for cycling and driving. The soil is rich sandy loam which never bakes, making it a very easy ground to work; thus lending itself readily to the cultivation of berries, nuts, oranges, etc.
"The variety of products, and the possibility of procuring small tracts of land at low figures, and on easy terms, make our section of the country very attractive and advantageous for truck raising, or for farming on a small scale. The following are a few of the products: Oranges, lemons, walnuts, grapes, peaches, apricots, sugar beets, berries and vegetables of all kinds."
"Anaheim is the possessor of a Building and Loan Association, water company, two railroads, fruit cannery and drier, large oil industry, ostrich farm, bank and sever-

on easy terms, make our section of the country very attractive and advantageous for truck raising, or for farming on a small scale. The following are a few of the products: Oranges, lemons, walnuts, grapes, peaches, apricots, sugar beets, berries and vegetables of all kinds.
"Anaheim is the possessor of a Building and Loan Association, water company, two railroads, fruit cannery and drier, large oil industry, ostrich farm, bank and several adequate commercial houses, hospital, two hotels, and two newspapers. The city also owns its water and lighting plant.
"There are nine fraternal organizations, including Masons and Odd Fellows; seven churches, embracing the principal denominations; a free public library and a fine grammar and high school.
"For further particulars address, Secretary, Chamber of Commerce, Anaheim, Orange County, California. All inquiries will be answered with pleasure."
JUNIOR R. C. LEADERS RECEIVE TRAINING
Two representatives of the Anaheim Junior Red Cross returned home on July 31 from a week's Leadership Development training course held at Orange Coast College. They are club chairman, Willard Henry, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Henry of 532 S. Palm St., and vice-chairman, Miss Carol Ryan, daughter of the Richard Ryans of S. Indiana street.
Over 100 Southern California delegates chosen on the basis of leadership, received instruction in Red Cross work ranging from disaster relief and home service to life saving and other safety services.
The VFW Auxiliary in Anaheim supports all local charitable drives and works with the community for civic improvement besides demoting time and effort to the veterans in hospitals in the area.
VISITORS FROM CHICAGO
Mr. and Mrs. Russell Hess of 515 N. Clementine St., recently enjoyed a 10-day visit from Rurussell's parents, brother and sister of Chicago, Ill.
Mr. and Mrs. George Sloop of 631 N. Zeyn, have returned from a trip to New York and Washington with a new car. They journeyed east by train and plane.
