Newlyweds Mr. and Mrs. Carroll J. Coykendall returned July 5 from a week's honeymoon trip up the Pacific Northwest Highway following their marriage at the First Church of the Brethren June 26, in Long Beach.
The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse D. Coykendall of 15332 E. North St. His bride, the former Miss Mary Louise Applebury, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Guy F. Applebury of Artesia.
The Rev. Robert E. Richards officiated at the double ring candlelight ceremony.
The bride wore a wedding gown made by her mother, designed with lace bodice, long sleeves, Peter pan collar, and a bouffant skirt of nylon net over satin. A cap of Chantilly lace held an illusion veil and she carried a bouquet of white orchids and stephanotis.
Maid of honor was Miss Donna Lee Noble of Artesia. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Druary Danker, Placentia, Mrs. Lowell Holliday, Whittler, and flower girl, Miss Barbara Susan Magusen. They were identically gowned in turquoise and coral tulle over turquoise taffeta and carried sprays of orchids and sweet peas.
The bridegroom was attended by Druary Danker of Placentia as best man. His ring bearer was Michael Goar of Artesia. Melvin Applebury of Artesia, Roger Giddings of Vista, and Kelly Nester and Jerry Henning, both of Anaheim, were ushers.
A reception followed in the Humorous Address Given at B&PW
"Pitchers are like people" was the title of the humorous address made by Mrs. Logan Wheatly of Fullerton before the Business and Professional Womens' club recent meeting at the Optimist clubhouse. The serious undercurrent of the talk was its money-raising aspect for a Korean orphanage. Mrs. Wheatly donates the proceeds of her entertaining lectures to needy children in the war-torn land, club president Ethel Caverly said.
A joint picnic meeting is planned with the Fullerton club later this month, also a board meeting will be held in the Fullerton church social hall. Serving were Mrs. Welsh Morningstar, a cousin of the bridegroom; Mrs H. E. Brmly and Mrs. H. E. Waldrip, aunt of the bride; and Mrs. William Campbell, a close friend. Miss Dorothy Noble, Artesia, presided at the guest book.
The new Mrs. Coykendall, Whittier college graduate, will continue kindergarten teaching at Norwalk school, in the fall. Her husband is a student at California State Polytechnic College at San Dimas.

In the fondly-remembered time of the nickel trolley and the 25¢ T-bone, gasoline for dad's 1925 model cost about 18¢ a gallon (excluding taxes). Sounds like a bargain—yet it really cost more than today's gasoline. The reason is clear when you keep this fact in mind: You fill your car's tank with gasoline, but what you're actually buying is mileage. Naturally, you'd rather pay $1 a gallon for gas that gave you 100 miles a gallon than buy 10¢ gas that delivered only 5 miles to the gallon. And that's why today's gasoline costs less than motor fuel of 1925 . . . it gives you more miles to the dollar. Research by companies such as

Standard Oil Company of California has improved gasoline spectacularly over the years. This better motor fuel made more efficient auto engines possible, and together they give you up to 50% better mileage than motorists got in the '20's. On top of that, competition between oil companies has helped to hold down gasoline prices. Since 1925, they've risen only 20% (excluding taxes) while food has gone up 70%, clothing 63%, and the cost of living 53%. Compared to practically anything else you buy, gasoline is a bargain. Your money goes further when it goes for today's finer gasoline that delivers more miles to the dollar.
