WINDER AT FT. HOOD Pvt. Horace Winder, 222 Elm st., Anaheim, Calif., is taking part in Exercise Spearhead, large-scale Army training maneuver being held this month at Fort Hood, Texas. Centered around the 1st "Old Ironsides" Division, Spearhead is testing the use of personnel and equipment in a modern armored division under simulated combat conditions. Private Winder, who entered the Amy in November 1952, is a rifleman in Company A of the 701st Armored Infantry Battalion. Dogs were among the first animals domesticated. B. Kaufman For many years a resident of Anaheim, and co-partner with his wife, Ronnie Anderson Kaufman, practicing attorneys in Anaheim. S. B. Kaufman, 60, passed away in Hoag Memorial hospital May 16, following a heart attack. At the time of his death he was residing in his Laguna Beach home, 174 Nyes Place. Attorney Kaufman, former Orange County district attorney from 1933-36, was a deputy until June 1944, when he re-entered private practice. Mr. Kaufman with William Bierne, of Los Angeles, successfully defended Bud Gollum and Beulah Louise Overall, in the celebrated Overall murder trial in 1947, when both defendants won acquittals. Besides his widow, Robbie, he is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Vivian Leo, of Costa Mesa, and two grandchildren. A native of Oklahoma, Mr. Kaufman received his legal education at USC. He was a past president of the Orange County Trojan Club; a member of the Elks lodge, Odd Fellows Lodge, American Bar Assn., California State Bar Assn. He also was a member of the Laguna Beach Community Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Dalzus Turner officiated at the services. Wed 2 p.m., in Backs, Camel Kaulbars Mortuary.
