Gabreski, air hero of two wars and eighth jet ace in history, will appear on the program of the Father Maguire Memorial Flesta at Saint Catherine's Military School here Sunday, May 16. Father Maguire, or Captain W. A. Maguire, USN, chaplain of the Pacific Fleet at the time of Pearl Harbor, is the padre credited with having inspired the famous song of World War II, "Praise The Lord And Pass The Ammunition," by his heroism under the Japanese attack on Hawaii. The Flesta will begin the fund raising for a Father Maguire Memorial Chapel at St. Catherine's, where until his death last summer he was stationed as chaplain. He had retired from the Navy after a 30 year career, and was the holder of the Navy Cross. Holds Many Decorations Col. Gabreski is one of the most decorated men in the U.S. Armed forces, holding the Congressional Medal of Honor and 23 American and five foreign citations for valor, including the French Croix de Guerre with Palm and the Polish Cross of Valor. As U.S. liaison officer with the Poles, he flew 20 missions with the Polish Air Force in Europe. He was shot down over Germany in 1944 while flying with the 56th Fighter Group and became a prisoner of war. Col. Gabreski was assigned to Korean war duty with the 4th Interceptor Wing in 1951 after a brilliant peace-time record in various U.S.A.F. commands, including special training at Columbia University in Russian Language and Political Science.
