Engineering Corp.: Fire Site Studied for Possible Arson
Following an early Sunday morning fire which reportedly completely destroyed the one-story frame warehouse, 12 trailers and equipment, valued approximately $35,000, of the Hille Engineering Corp., 701 E. Cypress, Anaheim, investigators inspected the charred ruins for clues of possible arson.
The 80x200 feet assembly building for camp trailers created an intense fire which melted and twisted metal trailer parts making it difficult for the four Anaheim Fire department units fighting the blaze to approach at close range.
Approximately 20 persons were employed by the corporation in the trailer plant and office personnel but there were no injuries reported during the two hours of fire.
The building, an old one, is said to have been used previously for the operation of ceramic kilns for many years, by the Buchao Ceramic Co. This company is said to have sold the kilns and equipment by auction held in the building two weeks prior to the fire on Sunday.
According to Frank Sallee, general manager of the Hille Engineering Corp., the trailer company had leased the plant for the past six months, and was covered by insurance. Sallee says the firm would resume operations in a few days as soon as another suitable location could be found.
Art Exhibit Planned By Lincoln P-TA
A students’ art exhibit and a demonstration of art instruction techniques were planned at the Luncheon committee who served the coffee and cake and decorated the individual tables with story book dolls were Mmes. Ellis Hutchens, Earl Zahl, Wallace Jeanerrett and Weston Thorsen.
Students Modeled At Fashion Show; Elect New Officers
The cafetorium at Katella school was gaily decorated for spring as members and friends of the PTL gathered at card tables in the early afternoon for dessert luncheon and fashion show as well as important official business.
More than 25 students acted as models in the kiddie fashion parade sponsored by the “Little Folks Shop” of Anaheim. Taking the topic “What’s New for Spring” Mrs. June Dewey acted as narrator and introduced a host of charming Easter styles. Mrs. Kiyoshi Shigekawa, vice-president, was in charge of the program.
Music was furnished by the Girls’ Glee Club directed by Mrs. Evelyn Holmes.
New Officers Named
Mrs. Hal Balmer, club president, conducted elections which named the following officers for the coming year: president, Mrs. C. W. Harrison; vice-president, Mrs. Dick Skinner; treasurer, Mrs. Herbert Douglas; secretary, Mrs. H. Schlagel. Mrs. Olyn Francis headed the nominating committee. New officers are to be installed on April 20.
Art Exhibit Planned By Lincoln P-TA
A students' art exhibit and a demonstration of art instruction techniques were planned at the regular meeting of the Lincoln PTA Executive Board at the home of Mrs. Edward Kearn. Mrs. Ben J. Wright, president, announced that Miss Lucia Upp, Anaheim Elementary Schools Art Supervisor, would speak on "Art and the Elementary School Child," at the April meeting of the Lincoln PTA, April 8, at 7:30 in the school cafetorium.
The Board accepted with regret the resignation of Mrs. Joseph Kessler, as secretary, and appointed Mrs. Bryan Fults to that office.
A recommendation that Mrs. Evelyn Polley, Mrs. Myriel Taylor, and Jack Polley be sent as delegates of the unit to the State Convention in San Francisco, was drafted to be presented to the membership for approval.
Arrangements for an old and new board potluck luncheon in City Par-k on May 4, and a brunch to be given as a token of appreciation for the work of the room mothers for May 18, were discussed.
Attending were Mesdames Fay Cook, Nancy Fults, Marian Hagopian, Dorothy Kearn, Vi Laflin, Louise Peterson, Evelyn Polley, Betty Rogers, Myriel Taylor, Virginia Wright, Miss Marjorie Strain, James Hull, and Edward Kearn.
