Let's be sensible about this subject of horsepower.
An all-American tackle doesn't go around tackling people in everyday life.
A world-record sprinter doesn't have to demonstrate his prowess on city sidewalks.
The better you are, the less you have to prove it.
And that's how it is with a Buick Century.
Of course it's a spectacular performer—a car with instantly responsive action.
It has to be, for this one combines a high-compression 200-horsepower engine with a nimble weight of or pounds as it comes off the assembly.
That's a power-to-weight ratio that up a new record—a ratio that no Buick has ever reached before.
It can spin your wheels on a dry pavement if you give it the gun, but why rubber?
If some show-off wants to get the job you at a traffic light, why not let him run? He isn't kidding anyone but when the name on your car is CENTURY.
The real pride of owning such

On last Thursday night two of Frank Porter's horses were stolen from his farm north of town. They were recovered Saturday in the Los Nietos country by one of Marshal Wartenburg's deputies, whom he had ordered to search in that direction. 'Ine thieves have evidently abandoned the stock upon finding themselves closely pursued.
Later:—It now appears that the horses' found at Los Nietos and supposed to be those stolen from Mr. Porter were not his. A few nights ago four horses, some thing and valuable papers were stolen from the sheep camp Manuel Silva about a mile from town. The robbers also killed goat that was tied nearly oppo to Messrs. Look & Co's., slaughter house and carried away the body leaving the head for the right owner.
General Stoneman arrived town on Thursday and yesterdays drove to the coal mine. The General says that he has taken statements as to Anaheim's emption from frost with severe grains of salt, but that he is convinced by personal observation that our claim of immunity is just and truthful one. Stick here.
Mr. J. Yoch of St. Louis, a heavy stockholder in the Blair Star Coal Company, has sent experienced coal miner to act foreman of the company's mine. This will insure the scientific development of the mine, and rapid and economical working.
Mr. O. Warling has secured services of Mr. Weaver of San Ana and is now better prepared than ever to make every kind harness quickly and cheaply. Warling has the reputation making the best harness in country and those who have chased from him will substantiate this statement.

An artesian well is being built on that part of Mr. Dicken's land on the Coyote Rancho, 5½ miles from town, which is leased to Mr. H. H. Stanley. It is now due to a depth of 150 feet.
Mr. Chas. Niles of Los Angeles has received a small importance of Poland pigs which he can recommend as being the best Polish China stock brought to this southern country.
Mr. J. K. Tuffree informs that the feed on the Steam Ranchos will be plentiful this year. The outlook for stock riders is better this year than it been for a long time.
Gen. John C. Fremont, his son Frank P. Fremont, and Judy Charles Silent arrived in Angeles on Tuesday, en route Washington, D. C.
The Episcopal social will be held at the residence of Mrs. J. J. H. on Thursday evening.

ride of owning such a car is
simply this: You know so well what it can do that you never have to prove it.
That lets you enjoy the tireless ease of its gait in ordinary driving, when only a fraction of its eager power is working. It gives you a quick reserve for breasting a hill—and the happy knowledge that there's still more to come in a sudden emergency.
Sure, this is more power than most people really have to have. But you can hardly call it extravagant, when you are buying more horsepower per dollar in a CENTURY than you get in any other car in America.
