Friday Services Slated for World Day of Prayer
As a force for peace in a troubled world, Anaheim women will join their sisters around the globe as World Day of Prayer is observed tomorrow (Friday, Meh. 5) a: the First Presbyterian church under the auspices of the Anaheim Council of Church Women. Mrs. Joe Thompson will preside.
Meditation will begin at 11:15 and those taking part are asked to come early so as not to make a disturbance. A fifty cent luncheon will be served at 12:15 and a nursery will be provided for small children.
A well-known Christian woman, Elsie M. Ferris, attorney-at-law from Long Beach will be guest speaker. All Anaheim women are invited to attend.
Newlyweds Take Residence Here
Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Borgen are now making their home at 403 E. Sycamore street following their recent marriage at the home of the bride's aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Killingsworth of 514 E. South street.
The bride is the former Mrs. Levene Hester, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. O. E. Hester of 15234 Anaheim Road. Her husband is from Pittsburgh, Pa., and as a member of the U.S. Marine Corps, is stationed at El Toro.
SIXTH GRANDCHILD
J. B. Collins of Anaheim Building & Loan Co., and Mrs. Collings are celebrating the arrival of their sixth grandchild. Their daughter (nee Kathryn "Connie" Collings) and husband Mr. and Mrs. George Burkheimer, Covina Highlands, became the parents of a 5 lb. 7 oz. daughter born Feb. 28 at Covina hospital.

PARENTS’ PARTICIPATION IN SCHOOL CURRICULUM NEEDED SAYS ANAHEIM P-TA COUNCIL
Anaheim Council of Parents and Teachers met Friday Feb. 26 in Investment in Youth Bldg., 317 E. La Palma, Anaheim, with Mrs. John Henry, president, presiding. The business meeting was preceded by conferences and workshops for both chairmen and officers.
Paul Cook Superintendent of, Anaheim Elementary Schools, reported briefly on the American Association of School Administrators he attended in Atlantic City last month. He said "The need is for good communications between home and school. As parents and taxpayers we have every right to know what is being taught in our schools. Participation of parents in home and school is growing by leaps and bounds all over the country."
Mrs. Forster Warwick legislation chairman, called attention to the special session of the Legislature next month in Sacramento, reviewing the following three issues on the agenda: marcotics, juvenile traffic cases and liquor control.
Jack Polley, reporting on juvenile protection stressed the responsibility of parents to teach good manners, morals and religion. He stated the family is the greatest unit in maintaining the American Way of life.
Robert Shanks, school education chairman reported on the benefits and need of parent-teacher conferences. Meeting the basic needs for children with good recreation and mental health programs, also providing counseling and guidance centers.
Membership chairman, Mrs. Glenn Kirk, announced a membership of 4194 in the Anaheim Council and 37,480 in Fourth District (Orange County).
Mrs. Forrest Simonton, chairman of parent-teacher information course reported six members completed the course held in January. Plans are for a course in the western area of our Council.

The Council voted to extend an invitation to hostess the September meeting of the Fourth District P.T.A. in Anaheim.
Elected to the nominating committee to present the slate of officers for 1954-55 is Mrs. Simonton and Mrs. Carl Hatfield, as chairmen.
Due to the State Convention meeting April 21, 22 and 23 the Council meeting date has been changed to, April 30.
Special guests at the pot luck luncheon were: Miss Elizabeth Dickerson District Superintendent Cypress School District; Mrs. Elizabeth Gates Mann, elementary school nurse and Mr. Shanks principal of Thomas Jefferson school.
A potluck dinner and social time was enjoyed at noon. Hostesses were members of Cypress P.T.A., Mesdames; C. J. Spencer, C. E. Denny, Charles Thomas, Peter Bruinsma, A. Van Klaveren, Geo. T. Alleman and Ivan Mahaffie.
Sang 'Delilah' Role At Riverside Fair
Gwen Harlow, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ahlstromp of Anaheim and daughter-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. Orman Harlow of Anaheim played the role of Delilah, the street singer in the "Arabian Nights Pageant" presented at the recent Riverside County Fair and Date Festival in Indio.
Mrs. Harlow is well known in Anaheim for her lovely soprano voice, and has recently moved to the Coachella Valley where her husband, Roger, teaches school.

Walt Taylor prominent local lumber dealer, was elected to lead the new group of the Anaheim YMCA officers for the ensuing term, Monday night, March 1. Assisting him in their respective capacities, and also installed at the same meeting were: Ed. Hawkins, vice-president (business and finance); Wilbert Bonney, vice-president of programs; Mrs. Al Casebeer, recording secretary and Ted Payne, treasurer. Installation officer was the Rev. Al Casebeer.
