Junior Play
Tryouts Complete
Tryouts for seventeen parts in the junior class play at Anaheim Union High school were completed Wednesday, Jan. 6. The play, "What a Life," is a three-act satire on life in a high school and is centered around the principal's office.
The play will be under the direction of Mrs. Louise Booth. "What a Life" will be presented in the Anaheim High school auditorium Friday, Feb. 26.
The cast selected include the following: Don Tousseau as Henry Murman; Gary Bonner, Mr. Bradley; Don Lee, Mr. Nelson; Barbara Mauerhan, Barbara Pearson; Zoe Forte, Miss Shea; Willard Henry, George Bigelow; Bill Kidwell, Mr. Ferguson; Carol Logsdon, Mrs. Murman; Merle Meyer, Bill; June Jungkeit, Miss Wheeler; and Steve Schafer, Mr. Patterson.
Bob Bircher will play the role of Mr. Vecchitto; Bette Van Delden, Miss Eggleston; DiAnn Sagan, Miss Johnson; Shirley France, Miss Plike; Beverly Howery, Gerte; and Janice Gerber as Mary, completes the cast.
William Brunnick
William H. Brunnick, 80, of 912 N. Zeyn St., a native of Missouri, a California resident for 40 years and an Anaheimmer for 32 years, died January 2 at an Orange hospital after a prolonged illness.
He is survived by his wife, Amy E. Brunnick and three sisters, Mrs. Sidney Cleveling of Iowa, Mrs. Hollis Curtis of Utah and Mrs. Hazel Brown of Nebraska.
Funeral services were conducted at the Melrose Abbey Chapel Tuesday at 10 o'clock. Rev. Alexander McCandless, pastor of the Evangelical - United Brethren church, officiated. Cremation followed. Hilgenfeld Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
Nurses Meet
Mrs. Lois Welton of Fullerton entertained the Orange County Industrial Nurses Association with the details of a trip she enjoyed through Europe and the British Isles when the group gathered in the Sunny Hills home of the president, Mrs. Lela Woodhouse, for the annual Christmas party.

Club Meeting
"It Can Happen Here" was Ann Jones' lecture topic when she addressed a luncheon meeting of the Anaheim Ebell Club on Monday, Jan. 4. The well known authority on current events shared the platform with L. A. "Dan" Patch of the Orange County Civil Defense office who addressed the gathering at luncheon.
Special honors went to those members whose birthdays come in December and January; and president Mrs. Charles Bush, presided. As a ways and means project, tickets for the January 13 merchants' luncheon went on sale during the meeting.
Announcement of section meetings was made as follows: Cosno Wise will instruct the art section each Tuesday at 9 a.m.; Joe Littlefield will address the Home and Garden section on Jan. 11 at 1:30 p.m. Toastmasters will not meet this month.
On January 25, Mrs. Hugo Schultz will give a book review at an afternoon meeting of the Book and Bible section. Bridge sessions were scheduled for the first and third Wednesdays.
Luncheon chairmen were Mrs. Robert Borden and Mrs. Wm. Chambers. Mrs. A. E. Bourne and Mrs. Mary Sue Brown were in charge of decorations.
Annual YMCA
Meeting Scheduled
The Annual meeting of the Young Men's Christian Association will be held on Thursday,
Delta Delta sorority, and graduation last June from the University of California at Santa Barbara. The new Mrs. Clenney teaches the fourth grade at the George Air Force Base school at Victorville and spent the holiday vacation with her parents in Anaheim.
The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Clenney of Tennessee. He is now a member of the U.S. Navy and expects to continue his education at the University of Michigan upon completion of his tour of duty. The couple will make their home in Onward temporarily.
Annual YMCA Meeting Scheduled
The Annual meeting of the Young Men's Christian Association will be held on Thursday, January 28, according to an announcement by Warren L. Ashleigh, president of the Association. Scheduled as the principal speaker of the occasion is Dr. George H. Armacost, President of University of Redlands.
The meeting, which will begin with dinner at 6:30 p.m., will be held at the Elks' Club, according to James L. Morris, chairman of the committee for the Annual meeting. Other members of Morris' committee are, David Collins, Mrs. Melvin A. Gauer, Frank Kellogg, and Mrs. Marion Pickel.
The public is invited and dinner reservations may be made by phoning the Y.M.C.A. KE-5-2165, or tickets may be obtained at the "Y," 121 S. Citron street.
Miss Zoe Fort, laughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Fort of 740 N. West st., was a featured vocalist when pupils and friends of the G. Willard Bassett Voice Studios gathered in the Bassett home in Santa Ana for the annual Christmas recital party.
Couple Announce Wedding Plans At Holiday Fete
The engagement of their daughter, Diane, was announced by Mr. and Mrs. U. N. Cave, 10411 S. Magnolia Ave., at a Christmas buffet supper at the Cave home. Miss Cave will wed Orlyn North, son of Mr. and Mrs. Irwin North, 10892 Manchester Blvd., sometime during the summer.
Silver bells in a circle of mistletoe bore the names of the couple who were feted by 20 of their mutual friends.
Miss Cave attended Santa Ana Junior College and will graduate in June from Long Beach City College. Her bridegroom-elect is a member of the Army Air Force stationed in Denver where he is studying electronics and radar.
Shower Honors Anaheim Matron
A layette shower was recently given for Mrs. William R. Mesecar of 10082 E. Ball Rd., at the home of her mother, Mrs. William Pesterfield of Stanton. Hostesses were the honoree's sisters, Mrs. Robert Young of Lakewood and Miss Betty Pesterfield of Anaheim.
As a sentimental gesture, the pink and white bassinet that had been used for the honoree's husband in babushka was filled with third Wednesdays.
Luncheon chairmen were Mrs. Robert Borden and Mrs. Wm. Chambers, Mrs. A. E. Bourne and Mrs. Mary Sue Brown were in charge of decorations.

A layette shower was recently given for Mrs. William R. Messecar of 10082 E. Ball Rd., at the home of her mother, Mrs. William Pesterfield of Stanton. Hostesses were the honoree's sisters, Mrs. Robert Young of Lakewood and Miss Betty Pesterfield of Anaheim.
As a sentimental gesture, the pink and white bassinet that had been used for the honoree's husband in babyhood was filled with the shower gifts and presented to Mrs. Messecar.
Messecar, a member of the U.S. Navy, is now in transit from Hawaii to Japan.
Sorority Aids Needy Family
Although the meeting date for Beta Sigma Phi sorority, XI Gamma Epsilon chapter, fell on Dec. 28 the Christmas theme predominated. A large contribution of canned goods and clothing for a needy family was made as the Christmas project. Helen Cohn presided. Plans were made to meet again on Jan. 11 and a dinner at a Garden Grove restaurant will precede the meeting.
The Christmas party was held at the home of Louise Miller on Orangethorpe and prize winners during an evening of games were Dorothy Gerlich and Margie Cibel.
Mrs. Frank E. Butterworth, wife of the pastor of White Temple Methodist church, returned on Monday, Jan. 4, from Lawrence, Kansas, where she represented the Conference Board of the W.S.C.S., at the National Methodist Student Conference. Barbara Galloway of Anaheim also attended this conference as official delegate from the Wesley club of the University of California at Santa Barbara.

During the holidays, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Pannier of 11611 Ave., announced the engement of their daughter, Lorraine to LeRoy Prater at a fammer party.
Ms Pannier is a nurse at the
Mamento County hospital, havgraduated from AUHS, FullerC, and the Orange County
national school of nursing.
Her fiance is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. O. E. Prater of Loyalton He
attended Loyalton high school,
Cacramento JC., and the University of Nevada where he majoored in medicine. He is at present stationed at Stockton with
the U. S. Navy Medical Corps.
No date has been set for the wedding.

Edith Night recently gave a bridal shower at her Center st., home for Miss Roycene Jennings who will become the bride of Earle Dierberger at Capilla de San Antonio on January 14.

611 N. Claudina st., enjoyed a holiday in Petaluma where they went with their daughter and family to visit Mrs. Rommel's sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Dietlein.
