Anaheim Gazette THURSDAY, DECEMBER 31, 1953 ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA Kirkwood Reports State Bonds; Cash SACRAMENTO, CALIF., Dec. 28—Robert C. Kirkwood, State Controller, today reported cash and bonds in the State Treasury of $136,020,597 as of November 30, 1953. This compares with $107,-682,398 as of October 31, and $130,-490,224 on November 30, a year ago. The General Fund balance figure excludes revenue which is restricted to a specific purpose. Controller Kirkwood's November 30th statement shows an increase of $28,338,139 over October 31, 1953. Of this increase $27,148,-740 represents the excess of November 1953 unrestricted revenue over governmental cost expenditures, to which is added $1,170,507 in non-revenue receipts and a reduction of $18,892 in non-governmental cost expenditures. General Fund unrestricted revenues deposited in the state treasury during the first five months of the 1953-54 fiscal year, total $325,-697,663, an increase of $33,164,939, or 11.34%, as compared with the corresponding period last year. Revamp Rarebit For Good Eating A new adaptation of an old-time favorite—is Mushroom Rabbit. To your favorite cheese sauce, seasoned in high style with cayenne pepper, dry mustard and Worcestershire, add sauteed mushrooms. The contents of a four-ounce can of mushrooms blended with a cup of cheese sauce will turn the trick. Serve the mushroom mixture over buttered hot toast. New Project is Started by Club The Korn Ruskers 4-H Club started a new project at the recent meeting held at the Pietz ranch, 7342 Ball rd. Club leader, Carl Korn gave details of the proposed tractor project. A tractor film from the County Agricultural office will be shown at the January meeting. President Charles Holland conducted the business session and appointed the following committee members to plan the December Christmas party: Joan Perry, Bob Schurings, and Charles and Floyd Holland. Program Chairman, Ronny Korn led guessing games at the close of the business meeting, and refreshments were served by Salty Cauler and Lynn Ann Pletz. Federal Flood Control Receipts For Fiscal Year SACRAMENTO, CALIF., Dec. 24—State Controller Robert C. Kirkwood today announced the apportionment of $467.00 in Federal flood control receipts to Orange county for the fiscal year 1952-53. California received $60,422 during the 1952-53 fiscal year, which represents 75 per cent of the amount collected by the Federal Government from flood control lands within the state. This money is being distributed to the four counties in which flood control lands are situated, as follorings from Local Clubs. Final results of the spirit contest for a place on the Delegation Team of the 6th Annual YMCA Model Legislature were announced recently, and 16 happy high school Y club members are looking forward to the trip to Sacramento in February. Out of 47 fellows and girls who qualified in September by attendance at a pre-legislative training session in Whittier, 21 stayed in the race wrote Bills, attended practice sessions locally, and finally appeared before a civic committee recently. Ratings of the committee together with ratings from their clubs and Y leaders, plus their participation record gave the final scores. The tap 15 scores went to the following people in order: Jim Moore Caroline Fechter, Zoe Fort, Marilyn Richards, Jan Critchfield Charlyn Schmid, Peggy Kohlenberger, Ann Betts, Roger Pinkstaff Clara Walker, Gloria Taylor, Marilyn Koontz, Patricia Roberts Barbara Olsen, and Elleen Bruhn. The 16th delegation member in Reynette Wallace, who was elected as a youth officer at the Whittier meeting. Judges from Local Clubs Assisting in the judging were members of Local Service Clubs, including Hildred Ferrell and Pearle Wagoner from Altrusde Club; H. C. Nelson and Claude Owens from Rotary Club; Harwood Larson and Walt Gooden from Optimist Club; Chester Ferris from Lions Club; Steve Holden from Y's Men Club; and Paul Bruce and Clyde Jones from 20-30. The Federal Flood Control Act of 1938 provides that this money is to be expended as the State Legislature may prescribe for the benefit of the public schools and public roads of the counties in which the leased lands are located. The related California Act stipulates that each county receiving an apportionment of Federal Control receipts shall deposit 50 per cent thereof in its county school service fund and 50% in its general road fund, stated Controller Kirkwood. Y GROUPS CHRISTMAS PROJECTS The Y-Dells, Carol Strachen, president, spent several evenings making scrap books of gay pictures for the children of Orange County hospital. The books were delivered for the holidays to the small inmates. The Live Y-ers, Sally Shaffer, president, presented a basket of food to a needy family, and held a Christmas party December 15th. Anaheim Girl's Betrothal Told The traditional passing of chocolates by Miss Carol Hochull at a meeting of the Palmer Society of Whittier college, where she is a student, signified her engagement to Howard Stanfield, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Stanfield of Indio. Miss Hochull is the daughter of the late Walter Hochull and Mrs. Hochull of 511 E. Broadway and is well known in musical circles here. She is a graduate of AUHS and Fullerton Junior College. The bridegroom-elect is a member of the U.S. Army and sailed for the European theater of operations Dec. 17. He expects to enter dentistry school after an 18-month tour of Army duty. No date has been set for the Mr and Mrs. Max Trujillo, 323 S. Clementine st., announce the birth of a 6 lb., 15 oz. son in Santa Ana Community hospital December 8th.
