Factors Leading to Peace or War Studied in White Temple Series
The request of the General Council which met in San Francisco last year, every Methongregation in America has asked to make a study of the that produce war and that or peace, and to relate this to the present effectiveness United Nations. In response request, White Templeist church is devoting every Sunday night service in the month of November to this theme.
The series opened on Nov. 8 with Professor Harry Nerhood of the Eurasian History division of Whittier college speaking on the "Preludes to War." He illustrated the war-producing factors by citations from the history of the Pacific Ocean area.
Next Sunday night, Nov. 15, Cyrus P. Barnum, prominent Los Angeles attorney and public speaker, will outline the role of the United Nations organization in seeking to solve these tensions.
The following week, a group of three motion pictures will show how the U. N. has specifically gone to work in various trouble zones. The series will conclude with an address by Rev. Russell E. Clay, pastor of the Whittier First Methodist church, reporting his observations of Europe this past summer as a member of the famed Sherwood Eddy semifair.
During this month-long study of problems in world order, members of White Temple will be making individual and family studies of the booklet, "The Church and the United Nations" by Walter W. Van Kirk, chairman of the department of International Relations of the National Council of Churches.
