LOS ANGELES — ANAHEIM Factors Leading to Peace or War Studied in White Temple Series The request of the General Council which met in San Francisco last year, every Methongregation in America has asked to make a study of the that produce war and that or peace, and to relate this to the present effectiveness United Nations. In response request, White Templeist church is devoting every Sunday night service in the month of November to this theme. The series opened on Nov. 8 with Professor Harry Nerhood of the Eurasian History division of Whittier college speaking on the "Preludes to War." He illustrated the war-producing factors by citations from the history of the Pacific Ocean area. Next Sunday night, Nov. 15, Cyrus P. Barnum, prominent Los Angeles attorney and public speaker, will outline the role of the United Nations organization in seeking to solve these tensions. The following week, a group of three motion pictures will show how the U. N. has specifically gone to work in various trouble zones. The series will conclude with an address by Rev. Russell E. Clay, pastor of the Whittier First Methodist church, reporting his observations of Europe this past summer as a member of the famed Sherwood Eddy semifair. During this month-long study of problems in world order, members of White Temple will be making individual and family studies of the booklet, "The Church and the United Nations" by Walter W. Van Kirk, chairman of the department of International Relations of the National Council of Churches. Messiah Rendition Slated December 6 Local choir directors met at the home of Mrs. George Sloop, Jr., on Tuesday to discuss Christmas plans for singing Handel's Messiah. It will be given on Dec. 6 at a 6:30 Vesper service at the Presbyterian church. Adult and high school choirs will take part under the auspices of the Anaheim Ministerial Union, Associated Protestant churches, and the Orange County Chapter of the Conductor's Guild. Sen. Kuchel has Vacancy for Naval Academy Cadet Senator Thomas H. Kuchel (Calif.) today announced he just been advised that he will have one vacancy under his quota appointment to the Naval Academy for entrance in 1954. Can dates must be not less than years of age nor more than years of age on July 1, 1954. Senator Kuchel stated he St. Jude Guild Holds Luncheon Members of the St. Jude Hospital Guild had their first opportunity to become acquainted with their fellow members from neighboring communities at a social luncheon meeting held on Monday, November 9th, at the La Habra Women's Clubhouse. A brief business meeting was held at which Mrs. P. J. Weldel, president, presided. The chairmen of the five activity groups explained the status of their various projects, some of which are now actively functioning, with the remainder of the groups organized and near readiness for active work. New provisional and patroness members were introduced. The speaker, Mrs. Don Hayden Rose, chairman of the volunteer placement workers for the Huntington Memorial Hospital of Pasadena, was a charming and enlightening speaker upon the organization and duties of volunteer guild workers. Rebekah Lodge Fetes Officials Howard George, district deputy grand master, and Sue Walker, district deputy president, were among the guests given escort honors when courtesy night was held by the Lois Rebekah Lodge on Friday. There were guests from every lodge in District 50. Pat Senter, Noble Grand, presided, and Charlotte Taylor, chairman of the Youth committee, spoke on the U.N. Youth committee. Plans are being made to sponsor a teenager for a visit to the U.N. Youth committee. Midge Fitz was in charge of the program which included the magic act of local boy magician, George Burns.
