HILGENFELD MORTUARY Faithful Courteous Service 120 E Broadway Anaheim Phone DE 3-4103 Manners as Morals Is Topic for Public Forum Why courtesy and considerate behavior are of crucial importance in a democratic society will be discussed at Fullerton Public Forum Thursday, Nov. 12, when Dr. Houston Peterson appears at Fullerton Union High school auditorium. Subject of his lecture is "Manners As Morals." Beginning at 7:30 p.m., the program is open to the public without charge. Peterson's ancestors include Sam Houston, of Texas independence fame, and four California pioneers from whom he gets a dynamic faculty of transforming the platform into a lively and exciting intellectual arena. Democracy in living habits depends, for its successful operation, on willingness of all the people to listen to others, to regard fellow citizens as worthy of respect. In a word, democracy depends upon tolerance of others with different ideas, he says. Without basic courtesy, life would be chaos, especially in a democratic society where divergent opinions exist on every hand, according to the speaker. Peterson has been called one of the best-informed and most interesting speakers on the American platform, not only stimulating thought but absorbing attention by use of human values and a sense of humor in his speaking style.
