Greet The Spooks On Their Own Terms There's no better way to satisfy the "spirits" that roam on Hallowe'en than with a piece of Devil's Food Cake. A family favorite it is, but one that prankish pumpkin faces can quickly transform into a spook's delight. In its dark, rich chocolately depths lie powers of witchcraft to tempt young and old alike. HALLOWEEN DEVIL'S FOOD CAKE 2 cups sifted cake flour 1 teaspoon soda 1 teaspoon salt 1 cup shortening 1 cup sugar With butter, margarine, or lard, use 1 cup milk. With vegetable or any other shortening, use 1 cup plus 2 tablespoons milk. Sift flour once, measure, add soda and salt, and sift together three times. Cream shortening, add sugar gradually, and cream together until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, heaving well. Pour into three 8-inch layer pans, which have been lined on bottoms with paper. Bake in moderate oven (350°F.) about 30 minutes, or until done. Decorating: Spread Fluffy Butter WRC Slates Card Party on Nov. 3 Because president Mary Fordyce was ill, senior vice-president Allison Robert conducted the most recent meeting of the A. B.
