Presbyterian Chapel and Chancel Choirs Hold Second Annual Dinner Tri-Hi-Y Council Holds Meeting The first fall meeting of the Tri-Hi-Y Council was held on Tuesday evening at Y. M. C. A. headquarters. The five new elective officers were introduced as follows: President, Reynett Wallace; vice president, Kay Forbes; secretary, Joan Mauerhan; treasurer, Carolyn Fechter; worship chairman, Ani Betts. Plans were considered for an officers training camp to be held at Taquitz Meadows on the 9th, 10, and 11th of this month, as well as a kick-off outdoor party on Oct. 6 for Hi-Y and Tri-Hi-Y in the City park. Parents, Teachers And Students at Anahi Dinner The first in a series of four dinner events sponsored by the Parent-Teacher association at Anaheim Union High School was held recently in the school cafeteria. Freshman parents took the opportunity to get acquainted with teachers and counselors of their children, visited the classrooms and chatted with the faculty. Class sponsors, Mr. and Mrs. Carl A. Lemcke, were on hand to greet the parents. Special events chairman, Mrs. Raymond Terry, was in charge of arrangements with Ted Wade heading a decorating committee composed of The second annual banquet for the Chapel and Chancel choirs of the Presbyterian church was held Sept. 24. Formal invitations sent out by Mrs. Gilbert Bottger and committee summoned the guests to the baked chicken dinner. As over 100 members of the choir gathered at the church, they were served appetizers in the Blue Room by Social Chairman Mrs. Robert Carlson and her committee who were in charge. The dinner was prepared by the Mariners' Flagship and served by the freshmen. Decorations were done by Rachel Cadwalader. The program, arranged by Chancel Choir President Bill Talevich, was begun with the assembly singing the Doxology. Dr. Arthur Stevenson, minister of visitation, gave the invocation. President Talevich spoke a word of welcome to special guests, the music committee and session members, and turned the program over to master of ceremonies Robert Shanks. A "Sing-spiration" was led by Dave Collins. This was followed by a comedy tour of the United States by Anita Schultz, accompanied by her sister Wilhelmina. A group of spirituals were sung by the Mariners Minstrels, Dave Collins, Ray Link, Dr. John Wilcox and Bill Talevich. The speaker of the evening was the new minister, the Rev. Roland W. Anderson whose topic was "Talents." After his address, Dr. Stevenson adjourned the meeting with a benediction. Anderson, and all new members were introduced and welcomed. Mrs. George Sloop, choir director, discussed with the mothers all problems confronting the five children's choirs of the church for the coming year. GE Dealer-Wins Las Vegas Trip In conjunction with the 1953 nation-wine celebration of the 75th anniversary of the General Electric Co., H. R. Fox and Co., of 4111 E. Center st., Anaheim, qualified as one of the 200 outstanding General Electric appliance retailers in Southern California who were guests of the company at the Hotel Sahara in Las Vegas, Nev., from last Sunday through yesterday. Samis Participates In NATO Weldfast Andrew L. Samis, machinist's mate third class, USN, nephew of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Bobst of 9102 Harding ave., Route 2, Anaheim, is aboard the anti-aircraft carrier USS Juneau which took part in the joint NATO training exercise "Weldfast." Weldfast, aimed at testing and strengthening the readiness of land, sea and air forces to operate and maneuver in the defense of Allied Powers, Europe's Southern European and Mediterranean States by Anita Schultz, accompanied by her sister Wilhelmina. Live Steamers Ride Hobby Twice In Past Month Local hobbyists who follow miniature live steam locomotives have attended two recent meets. The first was held Sept. 20 at Rancho de Locos in Lomita where the Southern California Live Steamers held regular runs throughout the afternoon. Assemblyman Gordon Corwin of Highland exhibited the German type tank engine which he built and affectionately calls "Annie." When filled with fuel and water, Annie weighs but 44 lbs. However, the little engine is capable of pulling two men on a flat car and boasts four drivers. The Tri-County Live Steamers had a meeting Sept. 29 in Santa Ana Canyon at the miniature railroad in Sycamore Park known as the Martin Rail Road. A quarter size engine, 5½ tons in weight, travels a mile of track through a picturesque wooded area and along the banks of the Santa Ana river. There is a stop at the half way mark and a "Union Depot" just off the highway. This small railroad is run as a commercial venture every Sunday. Myers, language instructor at Fullerton Union High school, has received a certificate from the University of Barcelona, Spain, for completion of a summer school course there. Mr. and Mrs. Myers are in Europe on a Ford Foundation fellowship, studying and traveling throughout the continent. He was granted a sabbatical leave from FUHS to take advantage of the opportunity. During August the Myers visited friends in France, Belgium and Holland with whom Myers had become acquainted during Counter Intelligence Corps service during World War II. September was spent on the island of Palma De Mallorca off the coast of Spain where the University of Barcelona is located. The Myers are now in Montpellier, France, where he is attending the university until Oct. 25. They plan to spend the winter in the Mediterranean countries, studying at the University of Perugia, Italy, and the University of Granada, Spain. They will return to Paris in March, then to Great Britain in May. Further studies are slated at the University of Geneva, Switzerland, and then home in August, 1954.
