SIMILAR State Utility Property Assessed At More Than Two Billion Dollars SACRAMENTO — Assessments for local taxation of the physical properties of the State's 178 railroad, gas and electric, telephone and telegraph, express and pipe line companies amount to $2,147,231,000 this year if the action taken by the State Board of Equalization is not modified during the two weeks in which companies may file protests. These assessed values will produce around $115,000,000 of taxes for expenditure by counties, cities, school districts, and other units of local government, according to William G. Bonelli, chairman of the State Board of Equalization. Added to the assessed values determined by the 58 county assessors, the State Board's assessments of these utility properties will bring the total tangible property tax base to approximately $17,153,000,000—an increase better than a billion dollars over last year's $16,107,000,000 based on State-assessed utility values were 9½% higher this year than in 1952, while aggregate county assessed values rose 6.2%. P.G. & E., largest of Soul Has Infinite Resources, Says Sunday Lesson That Soul, God, is the source of identity, individuality, substance, and supply is explained and illustrated in the Sunday Lesson-Sermon on "Soul" in all Christian Science churches. This selection from I Chronicles (22:18,19) is the Golden Text: "Is not the Lord your God with you? and hath he not given you rest on every side? . . . Now set your heart and your soul to seek the Lord your God." The Bible Lesson includes this counsel of Jesus from Luke's Gospel (12:22, 30-32). "Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, neither for the body. what ye shall put on . . . For all these things do the nations of the world seek after; and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things. But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; . . . for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom." Mary Baker Eddy says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures": "Soul has infinite resources with which to bless mankind, and happiness would be more readily attained and would be more secure in our keeping, if sought in Soul. Higher enjoyments alone can satisfy the cravings of immortal man" (p. 60).
