WHITE SOCIETY EDITOR Phone 7515 Heald-Oliver Engagement Announced At Sunday Afternoon Poolside Tea The engagement of their daughter, Miss Jo Anne Heald, to Carey C. Oliver II was announced by Mr. and Mrs. Richard S. Heald at a tea held on Sunday afternoon. Fifty close friends and relatives gathered in the garden beside the swimming pool to honor Miss Heald at the family home, 11341 Katella ave. Guests were received by Mr. and Mrs. Heald and their daughter and with greetings which were and with greeting were handed parchment scrolls tied with gold ribbon. These bore the names of the engaged couple in gold leaf. An imported lace cloth covered the tea table which was decorated with asters and roses in tones varying from cerise to pale pink. The centerpiece was flanked with fall delphinium-blue tapers. Miss Heald's sister and brother Beverly aged 10 and David age 6, assisted with the serving of assorted finger sandwiches, petit fours, and mints. Mrs. Fern Schuler presided at the cut glass punch bowl. The father of the bride-elect made a delightful ceremony of toasting the engaged couple. They plan to exchange marriage vows on Sept. 27 in a wedding to be held in the home garden. Mrs. Heald presented the couple with a loving cup from which they both drank, a romantic gesture to seal the engagement. The groom-elect is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Carey C. Janss st. have been entertaining house guests this past week. Making their first trip to California were Shafer's father and step-mother, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Shafer, and the father's daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Hansen, all of Wichita, Kans. They visited radio and T-V broadcasting stations in Hollywood, Knott's Berry Farm, the mission at Capistrano, and the beach area. Mrs. Hansen is an accomplished accordianist. Dr. Frank Barham Dies in LA Home Dr. Frank Forrest Barham, a native of Anaheim and former publisher of the Los Angeles Herald Express, died last Thursday in his Los Angeles home at the age of 74. He was born in 1879 to Richard and Martha Barham. His father came to California in 1849, his mother, the daughter of one of the state's first physicians, arrived in 1852. Nuptial mass was celebrated at 10 o'clock in St. Boniface Catholic church followed by a double ring ceremony. The Rev. Michael Casey officiated. The bride who was given in marriage by her father, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob E. Schumacher of Anaheim and Balboa. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Oswald George Quarre, formerly of San Francisco and now of Paicines. Heirloom Wedding Gown Miss Schumacher epitomized the traditional bride as she came down the aisle between pews decorated with basket arrangements of white gladioll and blue agapanthus. Her chantilly lace wedding gown is a family heirloom which has been previously worn by her sister and which will be carefully preserved for other members of her family. The fitted bodice follows classical lines with a wide V neck and a miniature lace bertha. A many tiered skirt flares from a tiny waistline. Miss Schumacher wore it with long gloves of matching chantilly lace and a pearl trimmed chantilly crown with a finger tip veil. At her throat, she wore a patterned pearl choker. She carried her First Communion prayer book and rosary with fillies of the valley and white orchids. In charge of three guest books were Mrs. E. E. Bruce; Mrs. A. D. Erickseon and Mrs. Vincent Bruce. The mother of the bride wore a cyclamen pink chiffon gown with matching accessories, and a pale pink hat. The bridegroom's mother wore an ensemble of navy taille with accents of white. Both mothers wore clusters of Phaeleonopsis orchids. Wedding Trip For a wedding trip to Mexico City and Acapuleco, the new Quarre chose a traveling suit of citrus toned sheer wool with matching accessories. Her corsage was of yellow throated white orchids. She is a graduate of Marywood Girls High School here in town, of San Francisco College for Women, and has attended the University of Southern California. She is a member of Alpha Delta Pi, and Tocktockers of the Charity League. The bridegroom attended Saint Ignatius High School in Santa Clara and the University of Southern California. He is a member of hi Phi and Bachelors' club at Anaheim Doll Club. Anaheim Doll Club holds Mid-Summer Meetings Thursday in the home Emily Van Verst, 605 tine st., with Presidio Leonard presiding. Twelve members attend three guests, Mrs. Doroteo of Vancouver, B.C., a girl Ives; Mrs. Mary Meyer guest of Donnie Simmons Frank Van Verst, most of the hostess. Reed II of Fullerton, Mrs. Lawrence R. Guild II of San Marino, and Mrs. Willard Monteith of Los Angeles. The matron of honor and bridesmaids were beautifully attired in matching gowns of embroidered white organdy over teal blue taffeta, ballerina length. They wore white coronets on their hair. The matron of honor carried a bouquet of Cyclamen astors while the bridesmaids carried crescent shaped sprays of white astors with blue accents. Oswald G. Quarre Jr. served his brother as best man. Ushers were Charles Quarre of Bakersfield, Peter Quarre of Paicines, J. R. Goledend and Robert D. Conlan of San Francisco. David Knapp of Pacific Palisades, Eugene Charles of Balboa Island and James Gartand of Pasadena. Chainpagne Brunch Individual tables for a champagne brunch for 400 wedding guests were set at the Greenbrier Inn. Garden Grove, following the ceremony. The Inn was decorated throughout in a bird cage theme. A central simulated bird cage was banked with white gladioli, blue agapanthus, delphinium and white astors. Twelve members attended and three guests, Mrs. Dorcen de Faye of Vancouver, B.C., a guest of Mabel Ives; Mrs. Mary Newman, a guest of Donnie Simms; and Mrs. Frank Van Verst, mother-in-law of the hostess. Among the dolls displayed were a lovely old-china-headed doll acquired by Mrs. Ives on a trip thru' Canada last year. The doll is at San Francisco. The couple will make their home in Fresno.
