Wesleyan Service Guild Chooses Officers, Selects Goals of Club
An organizational meeting of the newly formed Wesleyan Service Guild met on Monday evening at the home of Mrs. Eugene Beddall, 845 South Helena st.
Co-ordinator, Mrs. C. L. Andrews, explained the goals adopted by the national organization of which this club of gainfully employed Methodist Women is to be a part. She said the four goals are these:
1. To develop a Christian life.
2. To further world brotherhood.

Elected to guide the club toward those goals were Mrs. Arthur Roquet, president; Mrs. Vera Riner, vice-president; Mrs. Eugene Beddall, secretary; and Mrs. Charles Cary, treasurer.
After election of officers, Mrs. Albert Stokes led a discussion of missionary projects.
It was decided to hold successive meetings on the third Monday of each month. The next one will be on Aug. 17 at the home of Mrs. Dave Deshler, 311 E. Broadway, and anyone interested is cordially invited.
At the close of the business meeting Mrs. Beddall, assisted by co-hostess Mrs. Florence Meixner, served cookies and orange frosted punch.
Dick Weithorn, 10, of 316 E. East st., suffered two broken teeth and a cut chin in the Anaheim Union High school plunge on Thursday night.

WAYNE HELDS BACK FROM TWO-Week Camping Trip
Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Held of Amstutz ave. returned recently from a two-week camping with their three children, Armond, Rochelle, and Charlene. Mr. and Mrs. Held who are residents of the Ikes and Ikettes respectively, chose the Virginiaites south of Bridgeport in the Terra Mountains for their annual trip out. They took a utility trailer and slept in tents at the base of one of the small lakes. They report that the country was beautiful and the fishing excelled. Both rainbow and easternok trout were biting well at 9000-foot elevation.
The family visited nearby points interest and especially enjoyed reconstructed ghost towns of Idle in California and Virginia; Nevada, early mining towns; the weather was changeable, lying from sun to rain and hail. In winds forced the Helds to turn a day earlier than planned is employed as research mistr by the Filtrol Corporation in Los Angeles.
Husbands Honored At Birthday Fete
Mrs. Anton Vanderboom and Mrs. Vearl Royer gave a double birthday party recently to fete their husbands whose birthdays fall on the same day.
Each honorce was presented with a birthday cake which were enjoyed with ice cream and coffee. The evening was spent in card playing.
Those attending the party at the Royer home at 617 S. Dickel st. were Mr. and Mrs. Roy Jennings, Mr. and Mrs. John Losleben, Mr. and Mrs. Myrell Royer, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Switzer, Mr. and Mrs. Elsworth Kight, Mr. and Mrs. Charles McGinnis Mr. and Mrs. Charles Cornell of Anaheim, and Miss Claire Mathias of Fullerton.
Loan Co. Officer Returns from Two Weeks in Bermuda
Arthur L. Preece, manager of the Commonwealth Loan company at 101 East Center st., returned to his office yesterday after enjoying a two week free trip to Bermuda.
Preece won the opportunity to attend his company's President's Top Producers' conference by showing the largest per centage gain in business.
City Toastmistress Club Sets Charter Night for Tomorrow
Philomela Toastmistress No. 520, Anaheim, Charter Night and installation of officers will be held tomorrow evening, Aug. 7, at 7:30 o'clock at the Greenbrier Restaurant in Garden Grove.
Mrs. McMahan will be the installing officer for the evening. Members of the Santa Ana Candlelighters and Fullerton Toastmistress clubs have been invited to attend and participate in the program. Members of the Northrop Toastmasters will also assist in the program. Reservations may be made by calling Thelma Clay, Lambert 5-4771 or Anaheim 2183, Ext. 226.

After the pledge of allegiance, Ella Mae Morris presented the Table Topics and Pat Rae was Toastmistress for the evening. The best table topic was given by Mary Kennerly of Santa Ana who spoke on "Why I Joined Toastmistress." The best speaker of the evening was Thelma Clay of Fullerton who spoke on "What's in Your Hand?" Guest speaker was Mrs. Mark McMahan of Santa Ana, who is second vice-president of International Toastmistress

Arthur L. Preece, manager of the Commonwealth Loan company at 101 East Center st., returned to his office yesterday after enjoying a two week free trip to Bermuda.
Preece won the opportunity to attend his company's President's Top Producers' conference by showing the largest per centage gain in business over last year in competition with 780 loan company managers in this country and in Canada.
Accompanied by his wife, Preece went to Bermuda by boat, was kept busy day and night by a continuous round of business and social affairs, and returned by plane on Tuesday.
Mr. and Mrs. Preece stayed at the exotic Castle Harbour hotel in Bermuda and have high praise for the gorgeous scenery and excellent facilities offered vacationists in Bermuda.
Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Bonner, 612 N. Olive st., welcomed a son in Fullerton General hospital on Friday.
Mr. and Mrs. Cassius McEwen of 501 N. Vine st., welcomed a new son on Sunday. The infant was born in St. Joseph hospital and weighed 6-lbs.

Helen M. Sande Service Thursday
Funeral service for Mrs. Helen M. Sande, who passed away at Anaheim Community hospital on July 28, was held at Backs, Campbell and Kaulbars chapel last Thursday. The Rev. E. H. Pflug officiated with interment following at Anaheim cemetery.
A resident of Anaheim for the past two years, Mrs. Sande, 51, was born in Minnesota. She had made her home here at 733 N. Resh street.
She is survived by her husband, Henry L.; a daughter, Mrs. Mavis O'Leary of Anaheim; two grand-sons; and three brothers, W. J. Sether of New York, J. L. Sether of Alambra, and J. A. Sether of Farmersville, California.
