Mrs. George Popp Honors Friend From Ventura with Baby Shower Mrs. George Popp, 511 S. Indian st., gave a stork shower last week for a girlhood chum with whom she grew up in Ventura. The honoree was Mrs. Robert Williams who now live at 1617 N. Patton st., in Santa Ana. The Popp home was decorated for the occasion with bouquets of gladioli and Mrs. Williams was presented with a gladioli corsage. Garden Club Heads Meet for Plans Session Presidents of county garden sections gathered at the Ebell Club house this past week to exchange program ideas and to arrange tentative programs for the coming year. Mrs. Claude E. Slack of 523 S. Dickel, president of Orange County Garden clubs and of the Anaheim Ebell Garden section, presided at the meeting. Mrs. Slack has compiled an extensive file of material for the specific use of program planners and made this available to those assembled. She stressed the need for city beautification and the ways in which local garden clubs could work toward this end. Among those attending the meeting were: Mrs. L. L. Trout, of Garden Grove; Mrs. John Redmon of Buena Park; Mrs. Grace Holmgen of Barber City; Mrs. C. G. Bonshaw of Orange County. The guests, all relatives of the honoree, played appropriate shower games. Prizes were awarded Mrs. Lucille Younger and Mrs. Calvin Culp of Buena Park, Mrs. Dorothy Weisel and Mrs. Frank Shook of Long Beach. Mrs. Williams received many lovely shower gifts. Individual ice cream cakes decorated with pastel booties were served with coffee after the gifts had been opened. Assisting Mrs. Popp as hostess was her daughter, Mrs. Paul Peipenbrink of Garden Grove. Among the twenty guests who attended the shower were: Mrs. O. L. Culp of Garden Grove, mother of the guest of honor, Mrs. Murt Williams of Santa Ana, grandmother of the honor guest's husband and Mrs. Albert Gomes of Norwalk, sister of the honoree. Verne Kopitzkes On Visit Here Mr. and Mrs. Verne Kopitzke and five-month old daughter Janet, of Pittsburg, Pa., are spending a few weeks in Anaheim. They are dividing their time between Mrs. Kopitzke's parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. A. Gauer of 212 N. Helena st., and the elder Kopitzke's of 10302 Lincoln avenue. Verne Koptizke is an engineer with the General Chemical Co., of Pittsburg, and is currently doing special work at the El Segundo plant. Secretaries Hold Raffle Drawing President Enid Edmond, Northrop Aircraft Inc., presides at a special meeting of the Orange County Chapter, Executives Secretaries, Inc., held in the Melo Inn, Fullerton last week for the purpose of drawing the winning numbers in the ways and means raffle just completed. Bernice T. Bouss of the Anaheim Truck and Transfer Co., holds the winning number for the Automatic Washer. Lee Wheeler won the clock radio. A pop-toaster went to Mrs. Richard Vernon of Santa Ana. Proceeds of the raffle will be used to further philanthropy work of the club. The club meets to discuss new secretarial techniques, job problems and other job-related ideas it is composed of approximately 25 women, all of whom are "right hands" of top executives in Orange county industrial concerns. High ethical standards work and adherence to the principles of service to an employer are stressed. President Mrs. Enid Edmond La Habra was installed in office in January of 1953. She has been with Northrop almost five years and is now secretary to Richard R. Nolain, Northrop - Anaheim manager. Mrs. Edmond lives with her mother and 19-year-old son, Do who is a student at Fullerton J She finds her job interesting, challenging and just plain fun. She she (business activities and work can be effectively combine Bridal Shower Honors Anaheim Girl Miss Marilyn Daigle of 521 N. Zeyn street was honored with a bridal shower last week at a luncheon given by her aunt, Mrs. Fred Fluor of Santa Ana. The special luncheon was held at the Balboa Bay club and was enjoyed by 25 relatives and close friends. The table was tastefully decorated with silver bells hung on a miniature tree. Streamers of ribboned tulle strung with pastel flowers extended from the tree. Garden Club Ends Year's Activities With Play Day The Anaheim Garden Club brought the year's activities to an end with an annual play-day on June 25. Thirty-five members and special guests met at 10 a.m. in the city park and traveled by car to Long Beach where luncheon was enjoyed at the Sky Room of the Wilton Hotel. A two-hour cruise in Los Angeles harbor followed. Club members found the panoramic view most interesting and noted ships from Sweden, Japan and England. The guest list included Messdames Ben Anderson, Charles Schweinfest, Floyd Benson, Grover C. Darnell, Robert Ingman, R. H. Beckler, Harry Spott, J. Mooers and Fred Young. While no regular meetings are scheduled until September, club members have been invited as a group to spend the day of July 29 at the Newport Beach home of Mrs. Bessie Christanson. Crescendo Beach Party Planned A beach party for Crescendo club members has been planned for Sunday, July 12. The group will congregate near the Jetty wall at Corona del Mar throughout the afternoon. A meal is being planned for 4:30. Members are invited to bring own hot dogs, buns, and weinle sticks. The rest will be furnished. Reservations must be made by tonight with Heilman's at 2504, or Whieldons at 7106. Red Cross Plans To Renovate New Chapter Quarters A board meeting of the Anaheim Chapter of the Red Cross was held on Wednesday evening at Cross headquarters in the city hall. H. O. Whieldon, 1st vice-chairman, presided in the absence of chairman Joe Thompson who attended the Red Cross nation convention in Washington, D.C. Mrs. Thompson is attending with her husband second official delegate from local chapter. Mrs. Foster Warwick and H. Whieldon submitted plans to have been made for renovation of the new headquarters at 418 West street. These were discussed and approved. Renovation expected to be complete sometime in August. Final arrangements were made for participation in the first program at the Boy Scout Jamboree. Red Cross units of Northern Orange county at Fuller Southern Orange county at San Anza, the Orange chapter and Anaheim chapter will cooperate to maintain a staff of eight alders at the camp site through the Jamboree. White Temple Women Form New Guild Chapter Of special interest to Methodist women who are gainfully employed is the formation of a Wesleyan Service Guild chapter by members of White Temple Methodist church. It is to be a branch of the national organization and is being organized as an auxiliary of the Women's Division of Christian Service of the Mission Board of the Methodist church. Mrs. C. I. Andrews, 917 N. Helena st., has been designated coordinator. Twelve business women met at her home on Monday evening last week to lay the foundation for the Anaheim chapter. The group will dedicate itself to study, a definite program of work, and the support of missionary projects. There will be no fund raising activities. The fourth Monday evening of every month was set as the regular meeting date. The next meeting will be an organization meeting. It is scheduled for July 27 at 7:30 p.m., at the home of Mrs. Miriam Beddall, 848 S. Helena st. Anyone interested is cordially invited to attend. Home Economics Building at County Fair to Display Women's Handiwork Cakes, ples, canned and preserved foods and other forms of culinary skill, as well as all sorts of fancy needlework, will be displayed by the women of the county in the home economics exhibit building at the 1953 Orange County Fair, Aug. 11-16 inclusive. Even the men are invited to get into the act if they think they have enough skill with pot and stove, needle and thread, to compete with the female of the species. Exhibits in this department are open to Orange county residents only. Louise Thomas of Newport Beach, supervisor of this department and home economics teacher at Orange Coast college, predicts for this year the finest array of home economics exhibits in the history of the fair. Mrs. Earl K. Burdick of Garden Grove is again serving as chairman for the senior division in this department and Miss Meredythe of Santa Ana is chairman of the junior division. A total of $1198 in premium awards is being offered exhibitors in the home economics department. In addition special bonus prizes are being offered exhibitors for preserves, jellies and canned fruits made with C and H cane sugar. The table setting exhibits will include displays for buffet supper, children's party, formal dinner and patio party. Home economic exhibitors may also display in the division for baked goods and confections in the honey department. This year, to improve exhibit standards a nominal fee of 25 cents per entry per section is being charged exhibitors in the home economics department. The new Premium List books, containing complete information, and entry forms may be secured at the Chamber of Commerce offices throughout the county or at the Orange County Fair, 20391 Newport Blvd., Santa Ana; Calif.
