Surprise Personal Shower in San Marino Honors Nelda Schumacher
Miss Nelda Schumacher was recently honored at a surprise personal shower given by Mrs. Lawrence Ridge Guild II in the San Marino home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Diamond. Miss Joyce Diamond assisted.
The guests had received clever invitations designed by Mrs. Guild to a surprise old fashioned party and so arrived in old fashioned costumes ranging from the gay 90’s to the flapper days. Miss Schumacher arrived under the impression that she was attending a going-away party for Mrs. Guild’s husband, Larry, and was completely surprised by the shower.
During the evening a fashion show was held with each of the guests modeling their costume for an old fashioned trousseau. They then staged an old time sewing bee and embroidered their names on a linen luncheon set. This was presented to the guest of honor.
The party adjourned to the living room which was beautifully appointed in the bridal theme with miniature wedding party of dolls complete under an umbrella. Miss Schumacher here opened many exquisite gifts for her trousseau.
Buffet supper followed, served from a table decorated in the bridal theme complete with a heart shaped cake inscribed with the couple’s name and their wedding date.
Guests were: Mesdames E. E. Bruce, Eugene Charles, Thomas Brown, Frank Hutchinson, Willard Monteith, J. L. Reed, J. E. Schumacher (mother of the bride-elect) and J. R. Golden (sister of the bride-elect).
Misses Peggy Ganahl, Edith Grinnan, Virginia Giese, Audrey Lorton, Marilyn Brain, Catharine Campion, Charlotte McAllister, Cordelia McAllister, Jacqueline Logan, Joyce Diamond and Miss Schumacher.
Miss Schumaker was also recently honored by Mrs. Jay L. Reed II at a luncheon and kitchen shower held at the Balboa Bay club. Mrs. Reed was assisted by her mother, Mrs. P. E. Fluor.

Bradley-Henning Rites Solemnized In Outdoor Service at Capilla
In a picturesque outdoor setting at Capilla de San Antonio, Miss Carol Ann Bradley said her marriage vows with Jerrol Victor Henning. It was an evening wedding on the sixth of June. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Bradley of Orange, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Henning of Anaheim, are parents of the groom.
The bride wore a gown of white satin and lace without adornment and carried a bouquet of stephanotis and orchids. Her finger-tip length veil was held in place by a small white cap.
Attending the bride were Miss Jane Smallley and Miss Nancy Fritsche who wore pastel gowns of taffeta with overskirts of nylon net and carried bouquets of lavender and yellow gladiol.
In a matching gown of yellow satin and net, little Susan Henning scattered rose petals in front of the bride as flower girl.
Serving as best man was the groom's brother, William Henning and ushers were Gilbert Henning, brother of the bridegroom and Henry Pherris, brother-in-law of the bridegroom.
Solloist was Mrs. Robert Walters who sang "Because" and "The Lord's Prayer."
Mrs. Keith Gerrish and Mrs. Robert Walters assisted at the reception which followed the ceremony.
The bride's mother wore an ensemble of navy blue with pink accessories. The bridegroom's mother chose navy blue accented with white.
For her going-away attire, the bride wore a blue suit with white accessories and a white orchid corsage. Since the bridegroom is in the navy and was not granted an extended leave, the couple drove immediately to San Diego where he is attending electrician school.
Mr and Mrs. Henning are now making their home at 3021 Poe street in San Diego.
