San Diego County Fair to Open
June 26 for Run of Ten Days
DEL MAR—Agricultural and industrial finery of the Southland goes on display here June 16 when the gates of the 14th annual San Diego county fair open for the first time. This 10-day exposition, largest event in the county, runs through July 5.
The theme is "Where Town and Country Meet" an appropriate motif considering the country folk do turn out to learn about the latest in home fixtures and appliances while the city people crowd around the agricultural exhibits eager to find out about the newest methods in farming.
The one-gate admission policy again will be in force, Mgr. Paul T. Mannen said, and there will be no paid gates within the 200-acre grounds. This includes the grandstand events, the six-acre flower show, autocade, National Horse show scheduled every afternoon, and the continuous entertainment on the Community and Fashion theater stages.
Dorothy Wankel, queen of the San Diego County Fair at Del Mar, and her pet lamb, remind you this event gets underway June 26 and continues through July 5. Dally free grandstand shows are featured.

Sen. Murdy to Establish Office In County at End of Sessions
By SEN. JOHN MURDY
It has been a privilege to represent the people of Orange county in the state senate this year, as well as a real education. It has even afforded a certain amount of gratification, for the comments coming from home have been on the whole, most kind. Within a few days we will be back in Orange county where I hope to establish an office in some central location and keep regular office hours, where I will be available to the people of the 35th senatorial district wishing to see their elected representative.
Woring for the interests of the people of my district is, in a sense, like cultivating the land. As a youngster in elementary school I spent several adolescent years hoeing beans for various farmers in the bean growing area of western Orange county. From my earliest memory I was intrigued by the ability of some farmers to drive a bean row so straight a crook couldn't be detected in it, if it extended a half mile. At that time I looked forward to the day when I might have the opportunity to display my skill driving a bean planter, attempting to make straight rows. Eventually that time came—and I found out there is more to driving a straight bean row than upon first glance, meets the eye. There is the matter of keeping your eye on the objective: of concentrating on the job; of allowing for the slope of the land with its tendency to pull the planter to one side or the other thus making crooks in them, but I am hopeful they are small ones, not too noticeable as my critics look over the record and consider the whole, and that my errors (or crooked rows) will eventually be overshadowed by the maturing good that will result where the rows headed straight toward the objective of honest, clear representation, fair to all, plush the most good for the best number of people.
