4 Anaheim Gazette THURSDAY, JUNE 11, 1953 ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA White Temple High School Grads Feted at Sunday Morning Breakfast The young people of White Temple Methodist church who are graduating from high school and college this June were guests of honor at an 8 a.m., breakfast Sunday morning at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Langford Wicker, 6062 Lincoln ave. On hand to greet the graduates were Warren Ashleigh, chairman of the official board, Mrs. Lawrence Wagner, president of W. S. C. S., Paul Demaree, charge lay leader, Wilbert Bonney, church school superintendent and staff members Frank and Irene Butterworth, Eleanor Gilbreth, and Chuck Wiggins. The early morning breakfast menu served on the Wicker patio consisted of sliced oranges and fresh strawberries, scrambled eggs, Canadian bacon, assorted sweet rolls and a choice of milk or coffee. Those receiving congratulations and a vote of confidence in their future were: Elaine Bratlof, Mary and Joe Dougherty, Barbara Galloway, Joan Hanson, Dorothy Hairyman, Carolyn Lentz, Myrna Lewellyn, Mary Lou Love, Drusetta Martin, Dick Gray, Darrel Meade, Steve Stewart, Richard Wagoner, Marvin Furr, Mona Carner, Glenda Mungerson, Elizabeth Osborn, Ann Risner, Shirley Seekins, Joan Strachan, Sally Taylor, Kay Turner, Doris Ungrath, Judy Belle Wicker, Roy Casey, Bill Davis Jr., Dick Hanson, Dennis Ryan, Dean Stokes, Marilyn Hudson, Lee Bass, June McClain, Bill Bonney, Celia Hamilton and Dave Hanson. Executive Secretaries Hold First Post-Convention Board Meeting The home of Mrs. Hilda Bittles was the setting for the first post-convention board meeting of the Orange county chapter of Executives Secretaries Inc., which was held this week with Mrs. Pat Miles of Robertshaw-Fulton Controls Co., acting as hostess. During the business session, presided over by President Emilion Edmond of Northrop Aircraft Inc., it was disclosed that the San Diego chapter will hostess the convention in 1954 and that the Orange county chapter has been invited to co-host one of the conferences. board to replace Mrs. Helen Deen, formerly of Cherry River Co., who has gone to Cherry Point, N. C., to join her husband serving in the armed forces. Members who attended the 5th annual convention of Executive Secretaries in Berkeley recently were unanimous in their praise of fine attendance, work accomplished and the fun enjoyed at the Berkeley meeting. Official business closed with Willabette Foley of Poultrymens' Cooperative Assn., ways and Eighteen Attenders Hospitality Team Held Saturday The Anaheim chamber of mercy hospitality tea was held Dorothy-Wade restaurant day, June 6. After introducing guests hostesses many enjoyed digging they had much in common with each other. Some came the same town and others they were living on the street in Anaheim and werepy to meet their neighbors. Bethel Baptist Banquet Salutes AUHS Graduates of the Congregation Inspiration and encouragement for the future was given by Kay Anderson of Los Angeles and was the highpoint of the evening at the annual graduation banquet sponsored by the Young Peoples' department of the Sunday school of Bethel Baptist church at the corner of Lemon and Broadway early this week. In honor of eighth grade, high school, and college graduates, the speakers platform simulated a garden scene complete with rose garden, gladioli display and white picket tence. The dining tables were decorated with spring flowers and colored streamers. As guests took places, the scene was enhanced by the colorful formal dresses worn by the ladies. As a surprise ending to a delicious dinner, wedding announcements were found hidden in dainty cup cakes accompanying the dessert course. It was Miss Marilyn Litz's novel way of announcing that July 17 will be the date of her marriage to Kenneth Vertres. Sunday school superintendent Paul Jungkent extended greetings to start the program which was M.C.D. by Toastmaster Herbert Bowen. Bob Martin gave a toast to the junior high graduates and Eleanor Fuchs presented the welcome. Toasts to high school and junior college graduates were given by Victor Schmidtman and Ralph Cornelius. The musical program included a solo by Le Roy Reno entitled "Oh What a Beautiful Morning," and Marilyn Litz's rendition of "My Father Watches Over Me." After Anderson's inspirational talk, the program ended with the benediction by Paul Jungkent. Those responsible for the lovely decorations were Dallas Bowen, Eleanor Fuchs, Avis Jorgenson and Janet Isbell. Head cook for the evening was Mrs. Fred Meyers assisted by Mrs. August Litz, Mrs. Herman Strandt and Mrs. Virgil Isbell. Men serving the dinner were: Phil Boettcher, Walter Burtzlaff, Doc Ausburn and Fred Meyers. Marywood Grads Honored with Party Sunday Louise Marie Gallagher was graduated from Marywood on Sunday and in honor of the event. Franklin Girl Scouts to Hold Court of Awards Girl Scout troop No. 53 of Benjamin Franklin school will hold its court of awards today at the home of their leader, Mrs. Melvin Hilgenfeld. Marywood Grads Honored with Party Sunday Louise Marie Gallagher was graduated from Marywood on Sunday and in honor of the event, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Gallagher gave a party for all Marywood graduates, parents, and lay faculty at their home at 328 N. West street. Assisting with the party were Louise's brothers John and Robert as well as Edwin who arrived home from Santa Clara college in time for the festivities. Louise was also happy to receive the personal congratulations of her grandfather, William A. Dolan of Buena Park. The party took the form of an open house with a lavish buffet being served from eight until 10 p.m. The home was tastefully decorated in the school colors of blue and white with blue delphiniums and white stock flanked with tall white tapers forming a striking centerpiece on the table. Mrs. Phillip Bastian, Mrs. Arthur Cass, Mrs. William Le Vecke and Mrs. Ernest Williams poured. Family and guests were delighted with solos sung by Mrs. Jack Fisher who was accompanied by Mrs. Gallagher. One hundred and fifty guests enjoyed the Gallagher hospitality. The honoree, Louise Gallagher, plans to attend Fullerton Junior college in the fall. The greater part of Africa is in the tropic zone. Franklin Girl Scouts to Hold Court of Awards Girl Scout troop No. 53 of Benjamin Franklin school will hold its court of awards today at the home of their leader, Mrs. Melvin Hilgenfeld. Many interesting hours have been spent earning their awards. They will receive their cooking, sewing, hostess and first aid badges. Among their many activities lately was a trip to Irvine park for a weiner roast, hiking and bicycling and a surprise party of appreciation given for their leader. On June 12 and 13 the girls are going to Rankin's Dude ranch for an overnight and on June 19 and 20 they are going to Newport Girl Scout house for another overnight. Members of troop No. 53 are Marcia Kohler, president; Jane Murray, treasurer; Carol Sherrer and Sherry Claborts, co-hostesses; Sandra Kelsey, scribe; Margie Hilgenfeld, jr., planning board member, and June Brown, Judy Brownell, Diane Johnson, Barbara Summa, Carole Gray, Carolyn Crowl, Lucy Silva, Nancy Hammond, Carolyn Dugdale, Betty Lou Ferguson, Patsy Murry and Beverly Wilson. Assistant leaders of the troop are Mrs. Gilbert Kohler and Mrs. Francis Elliott. In parts of the Egyptian desert the sky is cloudless for months at a time.
