2 Anaheim Gazette THURSDAY, MAY 26, 1853 ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA Social and Club Activities IRENE JULIAN SOCIETY EDITOR Phone 2206 Wesley Marquart To Head County Choral Group Wesley Marquart, director of music at the Orange Methodist church, was elected president of the Orange County Choral Conductors Guild for the opening year at a meeting of the Guild Board held recently in the Dorothy Wade restaurant. Other officers include Willard Bassett, first vice-president; Stephen Palmer, second vice-president; Kathryn Talbert, recording secretary; Warren Taite, corresponding secretary; and Mary Steffensen, treasurer. The Guild is represented by choral directors of many schools and churches, and they in turn conduct choruses and choirs which total approximately 2,000 voices. One purpose of the Guild is to foster finer music in church and school, emphasizing a close relationship between the two. Sponsoring choral festivals is one of the activities of the organization in addition to conducting annual workshops, which outstanding musicians of the west have attended and lectured. Scheduled as the next big event for the Choral Guild is the annual convention to be held at Occidental college, June 19-20. Featured on the program will be Bob Shaw, internationally-known for his fine choral work. He was formerly associated with Fred Waring and is now head of the choral music department of the New York City public schools. Marquart will represent Orange county on the California state board of governors, which is composed of officers from each Guild chapter in the state, and formulates policies for the total Guild. Homemakers Camp Scheduled for May 31 to June 4 Women of the Agricultural Extension Groups and their friends from Orange, Los Angeles, San Bernardino and Riverside counties will plan camp together at Forest Home Camp, located in the mountains 16 miles above Redlands California, according to Marian Prentiss, University of California home advisor of Orange county. This will be a four-day camp lasting from Sunday, May 31 to Thursday, June 4. The theme selected by the Camp Planning Committee, composed of homemakers from four counties, will be "Living and Playing with Your Family." Dr. Ruby Harris, youth guidance specialist of the University of California Extension Service in Berkeley, will be present all during the camp. One outstanding feature of the camp is a supervised nursery school for the young children whose mothers or grandmothers would like to bring them to camp too. Dr. Harris will hold individual conferences with each mother during the camp. There will be trained assistants to keep youngsters from one to five years during the day, thus giving supervised play to children and at the same time giving the mother a chance to attend the program of the women's camp. There will be a full program of crafts, leisure time activities, swimming, good food, and other interesting speakers. Ann Albert, Supervisor of Women's Recreation in Santa Ana, will be in charge of camp recreation which will include a daily "Slim Trum" session, active and quiet.
