New Live-Bait Boat is Largest in Southern Coastal Fishing Service
Sport fishermen off Southern California this summer will be served by one of the largest live-bait boats in the world, the Conte di Savola, slated to enter service on May 7.
An ex-tuna clipper, the Conte di Savola has been equipped with a huge tank designed to carry 60 tons of live bait. In fishing parlance the capacity of the king-size tank is rated at 1400 scoops—more than 10 times the size of the average bait tank.

Santa Cruz Mountains Boast One Of Finest of Redwood Tree Groves
Motorists interested in the California Redwood will find one of the oldest and finest groves of Sequoia Sempervirens in Santa Cruz County Big Trees Park, located just about six miles north.
While not of as great diameter as the Sequoia Gigantea, the Sequoia Sempervirens does grow an enormous trunk in comparison with other trees. In matter of height they are the tallest trees in the frequented by people from the San Francisco area.
Today, the old railroad is good but good; highways and a good car will take you quite comfortably to this ancient grove.
Santa Cruz Mountains Boast One Of Finest of Redwood Tree Groves
Motorists interested in the California Redwood will find one of the oldest and finest groves of Sequoia Sempervirens in Santa Cruz County Big Trees Park, located just about six miles north of Santa Cruz and one mile south of Felton on State Route 9 in the Santa Cruz Mountains.
These Sequoia Sempervirens that grow along the coast, points out the National Automobile Club, are to be distinguished from the older, greater in girth, but shorter Sequoia Gigantea that grow primarily along the western slope of the Sierra Nevada. But both types, together with the "dawn redwoods" recently found in the interior of China, are descendants of an ancient species of conifers that once spread over large areas in both America and Asia.
Perhaps the most outstanding features of these great trees are their age, their glith, and their height. Many Sequoia Sempervirens have passed the two thousand year mark and were flourishing trees at the time Christ was born.
While not of as great diameter as the Sequoia Gigantea, the Sequoia Sempervirens does grow an enormous trunk in comparison with other trees. In matter of height they are the tallest trees in the world, one here in this grove being two hundred and eighty-five feet in height and one located in Humboldt County three hundred and sixty-four feet. To walk among these giants, past, the General Sherman Tree, The Neck Breaker, The Fremont Tree, The Cathedral Group, and many others, aware of the way in which they have stood there in the sun and storm through many long centuries, is an impressive experience not soon to be forgotten.
And among these trees the visitor will see some interesting old buildings. These were built in the early 1880's when the South Pacific Coast Railroad pushed its narrow gauge track through the Santa Cruz Mountains, established a station at Big Trees, and thereby converted the place into a populas excursion point and resort, much...
