Idea Catapaults Local Chicken Man Into Equipment Building Business
An Anaheim industry which long-tines to grow is the Taylor Shop of R. D. Taylor and located at 10192 Ball road. Taylor was just another chicken raiser until he hit upon an idea that has developed into an ever-growing business.
Taylor bought two and a half acres at his present location back in 1926. He realized that his stock of 250 chickens would not support his family, so he started a modest wholesale business to augment the family income.
He started buying poultry in this area and selling at a small profit in Los Angeles. When ranchers in this area began to ask him to bring back supplies which they needed, he decided to expand a little, and befo e long was doing a regular business in supplying poultrymen with supplies.
Taylor saw that some of the equipment could be improved upon, so in his spare time he started experimenting. He was interested in production control and labor saving ideas and in 1942, decided to start manufacturing equipment.
In addition to devices which his firm manufactures at the Ball oad location, Taylor also distributes hundreds of items of equipment. Sales are made throughout the United States and Hawaii.
Newest item which Taylor manufactures is the Taylorcart. This is a feeding device, operated either by electricity or gasoline, that enables one man to do in an hour a feeding job that ordinarily would take seven hours. Taylor says that the Taylorcart returns its own cost to the user five times annually in savings in feed and labor.

Suggestions for Rural Boxholders Submitted by Post Office Dept.
Annually at this time of the year the Post Office Department requests postmasters to acquaint rural patrons with facts to encourage them to provide suitable mail boxes and to keep them in such shape they will be readily accessible to the carrier and present a neat appearance.
The rural carriers at the Anaheim Postoffice in cooperating with these instructions submit the following practical suggestions for the rural patron in checking the condition of his mail box:
How good is your rural mail box?
1- Is the post upright and sturdy, the box securely fastened and easily opened?
2- Is your name and road number printed in black easily read letters and figures on side of box the carrier sees as he comes to it? Your regular carrier may not need this but when he is ill or on vacation the substitute is delayed on misboxes your mail.
3- What is the height of your box? Bottom of box should be 45 inches above roadway where car travels. Try yours for size by driving up to box and delivering a letter, reaching out the right hand side as the carrier does.
4- Give a thought to the car footing in front of the box. Crushed rock, broken brick or cement make a good filler for ruts in wet weather.
5- A heavy plank extending tween two posts makes an excellent support for several boxes placed together.
6- If your box is placed on arm extending out from post set in concrete inside a nail or a rubber tire as a form cement, you will then avoid a grader trouble which you familiar with on many roads; arm will allow grading with uprooting the post, while the keeg or concrete filled tire can roll out of the way until going is finished for the time being.
7- Keeping your mail box proper shape for delivery is patrons responsibility but the site of the Postoffice Department is to secure the cooperation of patron.

Merrifield Truck Co. Growth Due To Expanding Industry of Area
This area's growing importance in industry and agriculture is one reason for the remarkable expansion of the county's trucking facilities. Merrifield Trucking Company, 1122 North Lemon Street, Anaheim, has a fleet of 150 pieces of equipment of latest design for the handling of the various commodities produced in the area.
The Merrifield Company has been a main figure in the citrus products business since it was organized in 1933, having handled both the raw materials and supplies necessary for the production and shipping of the various citrus products manufactured, of which Anaheim has always been a major producing point. Many changes have been made by the Company to keep pace with changing conditions and the manufacture of new products; one of which is the frozen citrus concentrates. Transportation of these concentrates was a problem that had to be met. This Company entered the frozen food hauling part of the business with a fleet of ultra modern refrigerator vans, each equipped with its own individual refrigeration plant, capable of maintaining its load of frozen foods or frozen concentrates at zero degrees.
Another development in the production of foods was that a tremendous amount of granulated sugar was being used. Under normal handling storage space became a problem. The food industry eliminated the storage problem by installing bulk sugar installations. Again, the Merrifield Company met this change in need by designing and building special bulk sugar delivery tank trucks.
The Merrifield Company is recognized throughout California as being one of the State's best operators. Safety in its operations is of major importance. Its equip-

AMONG ENTHUSIASTIC class members whose instruction has resulted in artisite creations of unusual
merit is Mrs. Kaye Temming, of
1119 Crestview drive in Fullerton, designer and builder of a
four-foot piece of garden sculpture
in the form of a pelican, to be mounted in her garden when completed.
Mrs Temming began her work,
under guidance of Farmer, by seleting from photographs the type
of bird she wished to recreate.
From the pictures she drew preliminary sketches, to emphasize
certain lines and to develop a more pleasing effect.
Next step was to make a form,
from wood and chicken wire about
which she modeled red clay,
known in the profession as mexart. The clay has a terra cotta
body with grog as an ingredient,
a preferred type for out of door
and garden ornamentation.
The Merrifield Company is recognized throughout California as
being one of the State's best operators. Safety in its operations is
of major importance. Its equipment is properly maintained, well
painted, and clean. Its drivers are
clean-cut men of high integrity,
being conscious, always, of their
responsibility to the traveling public. The Merrifield trucks travel a million and a half miles per year
and have an excellent safety record.
The Merrifield Trucking Company's home, 1122 North Lemon Street,
Anaheim, which houses the offices and yards, comprises five acres. It is a scene of 24-hour activity. Trucks leave and arrive all hours of the day and night for,
and to, all parts of California.
