Talk on Latin America Slated At Public Forum
"Latin America" will be the topic of a talk to be presented by Paul E. Hadley, professor in International Relations at the University of Southern California, in Anaheim Union High School auditorium at 7:30 p.m. on Monday evening, April 20. The program will ring down the curtain on the 1953 Spring forum series offered by the school's adult education department.
Mr. Hadley, recently returned from three years work in Latin America and Washington D.C., where he held important positions under the Division of Cultural Cooperation of the Department of State. He has served as director of the Paraguayan-American Cultural Center, a guest professor in the Army War College, and as a popular member of the diplomatic colony. In Washington he served as head of United States cultural institute work for the other American republics.
Out of his experience in travel and diplomacy, Mr. Hadley gives an arresting commentary on United States relations with the republics to the south, the successes and failures of the Good Neighbor policy.
The program is the final presentation in the spring program series of 12 lectures and narrated films. The programs often attracting well over 1000 residents from the Anaheim area, have been under the direction of William Poulsen, principal of Anaheim Union Evening High School.

SMillion a Day Traffic Toll Reported by CHP
SACRAMENTO — Traffic accidents are costing Californians almost a million dollars a day, the California Highway Patrol reported today.
The sum is figured by multiplying $95,000, the estimated cost represented by one traffic fatality, by 10, the average daily traffic death toll in the state.
The sum also includes losses incurred in injury and property damage accidents such as loss of wages; medical and hospital expenses; auto repair and other property damage bills; and overhead costs.
Security Bank Offers New Local Service
Anaheim residents are now offering use of a remission service by which bank patrons write their own "money o' George M. Wallace, chief ex- officer of the Security-First National Bank, B.W.Jordan, agent of the bank's Arne branch, said.

He is survived by one son, Alvin A. Swadburg of Anaheim; one sister, Mrs. Al P. Erickson of Minneapolis; Mhm.; two grandsons, Milton A. Swadburg of Minneapolis and Willard P. Swadburg of Anaheim and three grand grandsons. He was a member of the Gustavus Adolphus society of Minneapolis.

Surviving are his wife, Jenovie R. of the family home, 525 S. West st.; two sons, Lt. William J. Heinz, USN, Whittier, Lt. Thomas A. Heinz of the air corps, stationed in Korea, and three daughters, Miss Catherine Heinz of New York city, Mrs. Duane Fredell, Salt Lake City and Mrs. 9of Truxall of Newport Beach. Clarence of Californiamans almost a million dollars a day, the California Highway Patrol reported today.
The sum is figured by multiplying $95,000, the estimated cost represented by one traffic fatality, by 10, the average daily traffic death toll in the state.
The sum also includes losses incurred in injury and property damage accidents such as loss of wages; medical and hospital expenses; auto repair and other property damage bills; and overhead insurance costs. Payment of insurance claims is included in wage loss.
The Patrol said the state's traffic accident bill for 1952, with a provisional death toll of 3618, was $343,710,000.
Officials pointed out that last year's multi-million dollar burden was being shared by others than those directly involved in accidents, especially through higher insurance rates.
As an example of what the $343 million would have bought it used for constructive purposes, the Patrol said it would have paid for a multi-lane divided highway, excluding bridges and other major engineering structures; from Oregon to Mexico and from the Pacific Ocean to California's eastern border.
