Anaheim Farm Center Has Dinner Meeting The Anaheim Farm center met Tuesday evening in the high school cafeteria where a dinner meeting was held. Mrs. Emma Paulus was in charge of the attractive table decorations which carried out the Easter theme. The business meeting was opened with introduction of visitors by James Alderson. Jesse Anderson gave a director's report and spoke of the water problem which was discussed extensive at the directors' meeting. Russ Hepler gave a brief review of the farm bureau building plan and also commented on the health and insurance program. C. J. Mauerban spoke on membership and stressed the need for additional members. Mrs. Jese Anderson gave a report on the home department and A. J. Schutte told of plans being fromulated for the Orange county fair with comments pertaining to the booths for the fair which is to be held in the fall. Clint Wright gave a summary of the narcotic division of the police department and she wedpitueres partment and showed pictures related to this month in Anaheim." Monday, April 20 Leaders of Tri-Hi-Club Complimented With By Women's Advice The leaders of the Tri-Hi-Club were honored at an annual dinner Monday evening in the home of Mrs. Alice Schmid on So. East st., with the women's advisory committee of the 'YMCA as hostesses.' The rooms and tables were cleverly decorated in the Mexican motif by Mrs. Charles Pannier with the assistance of Mrs. George Kohlenberger. Preparing the Mexican dinner were Mrs. Walt Taylor, Mrs. Everett Cone, Mrs. Warren Hodges, Mrs. Willard Olding and Mrs. Pannier. The president of the women's committee, Mrs. Harry Nutt, welcomed the guests and, on behalf of the committee, thanked the leaders. Mrs. Nan Moore, girls work director, expressed her appreciation to both the leaders and women of the committee. Progressive games were played under the direction of Mrs. Clarence Mauerhan and Mrs. Kohlenberger with Mrs. H. W. Wiley, Mrs. Dave Schwemmer and Mrs. A. Casebeer winning the prizes. Guests of honor included Mrs Don Chamberlain, Mrs Orlo Fast, Mrs Clarence Heinrich, Mrs Curtis Meade Miss Pat Brooks, Miss Deana Murdy, Miss Pat Frahm. Fremont P-TA Board Meets At Mrs. Schafers Mrs. Herman Schafer was hostess to Fremont P-TA executive Engagement of Local Girl Announced Mr. and Mrs. Harold Harling, 401 N. Janss st., are announcing the engagement of their daughter, Mildred, to Howard Asplund, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry P. Asplund, 5120 Mt. Helena ave., Eagle Rock. The happy news was first disclosed by Mildred when she made the announcement to her sorority sisters of Alpha Sigma Pi Monday evening at Redlands university where she is a junior. The lovely bride-elect is a graduate of AURS class of '50 where she was affiliated with and served as president to both the Y-Teens and Colonial Co-Eds. This year she is vice president of the Women Students association at the university where she plans to continue her studies. The bridegroom-elect is a graduate of Eagle Rock high school and attended John Mulr prior to entering the air forces where he is serving as airman first class and stationed at George air base in Victorville. Fremont P-TA Board Meets At Mrs. Schafers Mrs. Herman Schafer was hostess to Fremont P-TA executive board members when they met in her home recently with President Mrs. A. E. Bourne presiding. Installation of officers for the ensuing year will take place at the April 21 meeting at the school. The annual student dance is set for May 23 at the Ebell clubhouse with Donald Derr, director of recreation in charge. Admission to be by invitation. Parents are reminded of the grease drive April 16. National Fuchsia Society to Picnic In City Park Anaheim City Park has been selected as the setting for the National Fuchsia Society annual picnic to be given Sunday, June 14, with Charles A. Criss of Anaheim in charge of arrangements. It is anticipated that 100 to 150 members and guests will attend. The Tri-Hi-Y girls entertained their mothers at a mother-daughter dessert held in the YMCA building Tuesday evening under the direction of Mrs. Nan Moore, girls' work director. Mrs. Albert Launer of Fullerton was the main speaker. She told of pioneer women of California wearing a hat from each period. Mrs. Launer used as illustrations a girl named Maria who arrived in 1776 and settled in the San Gabriel mission, who became the great great grandmother of Leo Carillo. The second woman was Josepha Carillo who married Henry Delano Fitch. He gave the bell to the church in the plaza in Los Angeles. Wearing an old sunbonnet she told of Nancy Kelsey, the first white woman to come to California, who made her first Bear flag in Sonoma. With a lacy hat she spoke of Lola Montex, a famous entertainer of her day. Olive Colgrove Cole was the next California woman of 1852. She concluded with the story of Frances Smith of Claremont and how she founded the now famous Casa Colina hospital for crippled chil- Governor Welcomes Conference SACRAMENTO—Governor Earl Warren welcomed the presidents of state units of national women's organizations when they began a two-day conference on women's role in Civil Defense in the State CD headquarters April 14. As soon as the state's chief executive opened the meeting, first of its kind to be called by him since the preparedness program was reactivated in 1950, conferences began a series of sessions during which they will learn—and ask questions—about the assignments and accomplishments of each of CD's services. Mrs. Earl B. Shoesmith, former president of the California Federation of Women's Clubs and now State CD field representative, Mrs. O. G. Thomason, Mary Casebeer led group singing accompanied by Jan Larson. Each club had decorated a table which the women's advisory committee judged during the evening; Mrs. Harry Nutt, president, presented the awards to the Junior Par-Y-Femini club for most attractive, the Y-Ysers freshman for the most original and the Tri-U seniors for the most timely. We want the conferees to meet everyone connected with State Civil Defense, to learn and answer questions about every service and to return home better prepared to explain to their members what women must play such a big role in our preparedness program.
