CHRYSLER'S D'ELEGANCE
A classic in American automotive styling—D'Elegance—a fresh and original prototype two-passenger sports car will make its debut at the Auto-Lite Easter Parade of Stars auto show in New York Saturday, April 4. D'Elegance is built on a modified 125½-inch frame to accommodate its 115-inch wheelbase. A black and natural yellow leather interior complements the spring coral exterior. D'Elegance is powered by a standard Chrysler FirePower V-8 engine.
Toastmasters Hold Ladies' Night Program
Newly-installed President Lew Boys presided over the Ladies' Night program of Anaheim Toastmasters club Monday night at the Dragon cafe following installation ceremonies conducted by Arv Governor Louis Taylor.
William Chambers, toastmaster of the evening, introduced the speakers, including John Laitur who spoke on "Poisoned Arrows" by Lyle Wallace, "All I Know"; Dio Herman, "Hats off to the Ladies' and Ray Damerell," "Another Spring is Here."
Evaluators were R. J. Allen and
The tire compartment on the rear deck of the D'Elegance, Chrysler Corporation's newest advanced style automobile, introduces a new idea as illustrated above. By pushing buttons located inside the door at the rear compartment, the driver can automatically lift the cover and the spare tire with it. The spare tire is then automatically moved rearward and downward until it comes to rest behind the rear bumper for easy removal. D'Elegance, a functional automobile, will make its debut at the Auto-Lite Easter Parade of Stars auto show Saturday, April 4, in New York.
Trailer Show to Feature Latest Innovations in Homes on Wheels
A significant trend in trailers that may slightly revolutionize American living is the dominant theme of the 8th Annual Trailer Coach Association Trailer Show which opens its gates at the Pan Pacific Auditorium April 9th.
A new word—mobile homes—describes both the trend and $1,000,000 plus of remarkable trailer-coaches which will be displayed in some 175 beautiful 1953 models.
That the trailer show, one of the most unique spectacles of our age, is arousing vastly mounting interest, is revealed in the fact that this year's show will be double the size of any previous trailer show—both in space occupied and in number of exhibits.
Trend Changing
Harold Hauflaire, president of the Trailer Coach Association, which sponsors this great annual exhibition, sums up the changing trend in trailer-coach living, with the assertion: "The trailer-coach has now reached an important evolutionary stage. (It's a permanent home now for 93% of all coach owners.) The fact that their mobile home can be moved around the country is purely secondary."
This new trend for permanency also places a sharp line of demarcation in trailer-coach building. Vacation types, smaller in size and less luxurious in appointments, will supply the requirements of those who use their trailer coaches on special occasions... trips and travel. The "vacation" type trailer coaches run up to 25' in size. For the more permanent mobile-home, 40' coaches are common amd, at this show, at least one luxurious 65' mobile mansion will be exhibited.

Tubs and Showers, Yet
Advance previews of the 1953 models to be displayed at the Pan Pacific Auditorium April 9 - 19 reveal some marvels of mechanical and engineering ingenuity. Elaborate, luxurious new models with all-steel electric kitchens, ingenious double-duty furnishings, bathrooms with both tubs and showers, electric refrigeration, heating and air-conditioning, TV sets and every type of modern appliance are the rule rather than the exception. About the only thing today's mobile doesn't have... is a basement. Practically every West Coast trailer-coach manufacturer and many of the more prominent Eastern firms will have large displays showing complete lines and models.
Over 100 accessory suppliers will have displays, showing some of the most compact and ingenious devices ever created for mobile home living.
Three-Way Show
As in previous years, the Trailer Show will be held simultaneously with the annual Sportsman's Vacation and Boat Show, with one admission covering both shows. Because of their vast space requirements the trailer exhibits will be featured in a special Trailer Village. Gates to the Trailer Village will be open daily at 1 p.m. from April 9 - 19th and will remain open until 11 p.m.
This year's Trailer Show will feature one of the very first trailers... an ancient Romany Cara-
Tri-County Water Litigation Seen As Water Demand Exceeds Supply
Water leaders of Orange county say that litigation between the three Santa Ana river counties, Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino, to adjudicate respective water rights, is a sure prospect sooner or later.
They are pushing the current water replenishment program through the state legislature in the hope of avoiding a similar court action here at home, among ourselves.
Court adjudication of water rights in the Orange county basin, a step taken when demand exceeds supply, would cut down everyone's present water rights.
Expensive Method
Demand already exceeds supply by 67,000 acre feet of water a year. It is a matter of either bringing up the supply to meet the demand, or cut down the demand—consumption, that is—to equal the supply. The latter step would be accomplished by court adjudication of water rights, upsetting all present rights in the basin and making them over to fit the supply.
This is an exceedingly expensive way of forcing everyone to use less water.
The alternative, as pointed out by water leaders sponsoring the reorganization of the Orange County Water District, to administer and finance a water replenishment program, is to build up the underground water levels so that there will be enough water to meet all demands, also to prevent contamination of the entire water supply by salt water from the ocean, which already has penetrated several miles inland through Santa Ana Gap, near Huntington Beach.
If that happens, it won't matter about water rights or their adjudication. There will be nothing to adjudicate.
Replenishment Tax
The water district reorganization, enlarging its scope to bring everyone into the fight for survival, also proposes a tax on all water pumped from the basin, with which to buy more water outside of the basin and put it back underground. It is planned to put back not only all that is pumped out each year, but an additional 25,000 acre feet per year, build up the fading water levels high enough to repel the advancing salt water front.
The fresh water level has to be five feet higher than sea level to build up enough pressure to drive the salt water back. It is now well below sea level.
Would Save Basin
All these considerations explain why, although not everybody agrees on how the replenishment project should be organized, everybody does agree that it must be accomplished, to save the basin and forestall legal chaos.
There is no such hope of avoiding adjudication of rights to the Santa Ana river supply, as between the three counties, San Bernardino and Riverside counties.

have first and second grab at river, and Orange county, at lower end, gets what they leave Lately, they have not been leaving our share.
The noted Irvine suit of mild-thirties brought a court simulation covering division of stop water run-off, but there has been no adjudication of the norr supply.
Gentle Legal Hint
The Orange County Water District's 1951 injunction suit against the cities of San Bernardino, Riverside, Colton and Redlands, stop them from increasing the pumping, was a gentle hint that they should annex to the Metropolitan Water District, as Oran county has done, and use Colorado river water.
But these cities appear to have ignored the warning, and effect in San Bernardino and Riverside counties to organize a district annexation to MWD, have been sabotaged.
So it appears that, sooner later, and probably sooner, water war will break into open. The injunction suit no doubt will be only the first round I finish fight.
