Keeps Woman of 93 Years Alert
After living an active life for 90 years in Minnesota, Mrs. Rose Richardson has made her home for the past three years with her son Dr. Vernon Smith, 509 Jacaranda st., Fullerton, where she recently celebrated her 93rd birthday. Alert to world events, she has kept a daily diary for the past 25 years although intermittent entries date back to her young womanhood.
A real pioneer, the gracious lady seemed modesty surprised at the attention given her birthday although she is proud of the fact that her birth date, March 19, 1860, coincides with that of the "Silver Tongued Orator," William Jennings Bryan.
Reminiscing, Mrs. Richardson spoke of moving in 1872 to the pioneer county of Renville, Minn., a homesteading area on the prairie where covered wagons intermittently brought new families to the sparsely settled county. Catastrophe befell the struggling pioneers one year when grasshoppers destroyed the oats and wheat crop. She also recalled riding horseback many miles each day to round up cattle, and serving as the only teacher in a country school at the age of 17.
The regular Saturday a baseball game was the recreation, participated in entire community. Square came in for its share of priety especially upon the county often danced to the of one viplin.
During the long winter's tural club held meetings to keep the town in touch outside world activities. "Few activities," she said, "everyone joined to make the portant in our lives." For she resided in St. Paul and active in the Community of which she was the officer or for years.

Closing of All Out and Mode at Cost! Nea
The regular Saturday afternoon baseball game was the principal recreation, participated in by the entire community. Square dancing came in for its share of popularity especially upon the completion of a new barn when the community often danced to the music of one viplin.
During the long winters, a cultural club held meetings designed to keep the town in touch with outside world activities. "We had new activities," she said, "but everyone joined to make them important in our lives." For 50 years she resided in St. Paul and was active in the Community church of which she was the official visitor for years.
