BUY OR SELL-- Get FAST RESULTS Call Girl Names 50 to 100 Big Names in Trial Of Minot (Mickey) Jelke on Procurement Charges NEW YORK (AP)—Call girl Pat Ward wept at her past Tuesday and choked over the names of cafe society bigshots to whom she sold her scarlet love. However, reportedly goaded on by a contempt of court threat, she gushed forth name after name—a reported 50-100 in all at the end of two day's testimony. "A lot of good big names," the defense revealed during a recess in the procuring trial of Minot (Mickey) Jelke, heir to an oleomargarine fortune. The names were a dark secret, however, the errant men protected by General Sessions Judge Francis L. Valente's news blackout. The defense confirmed that one of the men Miss Ward named was a Park Avenue resident, reputed to be a wealthy Austrian muni-tions manufacturer until he came here as a wartime refugee. No one in political life or in public office has been mentioned, all sides agreed. Miss Ward, 19-year-old copper-haired prostitute, was the state's star opening witness against Jelke. The 23-year-old defendant is accused of winning her heart and then living off her earnings as a prostitute. She broke down on the witness stand and reportedly balked at continuing her lurid testimony until Valente threatened her with contempt. Her tale of forbidden love in Southern Counties Gas Co. Plans Heavy Expansion Program for '53 Southern Counties Gas Company's budget for 1953 anticipates capital expenditures exceeding $3,820,000 in the Orange county area. It was learned today from Justin M. Kennedy, manager of the company's Orange county division. The major portion of this new money, Kennedy said, is needed to bring service to new customers in this fastest growing of all the company's eight operating divisions. New customers are now being added in Orange county, Kennedy revealed, at the amazing rate of an estimated 7700 a year. With today's cost of connecting these new customers at the all-time high figure of $213 each, as compared to $75 in 1940, the company has found it necessary to allocate $1,640,000 for this purpose. The installation of new distribution pipelines to serve recently developed areas, and the replacement of worn out mains and services in the older communities will require another $1,670,000. Here again, inflation has taken its toll. Where in 1940 the average cost per foot for installation of new distribution mains was $1.30, the cost today is $3.30. The rest of the funds allocated to this area this year will go into new facilities and equipment needed to care for the steady enlargement of the business here. Kennedy stated that the company's total capital budget this year is the greatest in its entire history. To satisfy the demands of the fastest growing area in the world for natural gas, Southern County Gas Co. is planning the expenditure during 1953 of more than $15,600,000. This is more than 50 per cent greater than the capital requirements for 1952. Over $6,800,000 of the 1953 budget has been allocated for meters and service lines to supply gas to the 32,000 new customers expected to be added systemwide this year. To assure an adequate gas supply for this and other Southern California areas served by the company, Southern Counties Gas Co. this year appropriated $2,450,000 as its share in an expansion of the Texas Pipeline facilities to handle an additional 300 million cubic feet of out-of-state gas daily. Total cost of the expansion will be $9,800,000. The project will require the parallelling and tying in of nearly 100 miles of the California section of the present 30-inch line that runs from Blythe to Santa Fe Springs. It will also involve the building of two new booster stations, one at Desert Center and the other at Cactus City, as well as the installation of additional compressor capacity at the Blythe compressor station. The first phase of the job, which will increase deliveries to 555 million cubic feet a day, is now under way. And the second phase, pending the approval of federal regulatory bodies, will be started later this year. The company hopes to be able to complete the entire project, increasing deliveries of out-of-state gas to 705 million cubic feet daily by the end of 1953. GIRL RESCUED FROM SURF—Police Sgt. Jack Chaney (kneeling facing camera) rode his horse, Bill, into the rolling surf to rescue Barbara Engs, 17, of Richmond, Calif. The girl and her companion, John Williamson (left), were caught in a heavy undertow about 200 yards offshore opposite San Francisco's Fleishacker Zoo. Above an ambulance attendant (right) and a life guard work over the exhausted girl as Sgt. Chaney and Bill look on. LEGAL NOTICES (Pub.
